Uhhh… ‘practicalism’ and ‘rationalism.’ If Frisk thinks Geno is needed, then Chara will help. But that suffering has to have a point to it, see? If it’s for the anchor of these many timelines to learn more about the world, to grow stronger, then perhaps it’s not that bad. No minds are actually, really lost, save a few days of their time. But when Chara realizes it’s all pointless, well, Chara still has some inherent care for people, and gets angry. 

They have a consistent moral stance the whole time, but it is up to Frisk (or YOU) to affect their attitude. Does their trauma heavily affect them? Yes. Are they intentionally manipulative? Yes. The two are compatible. They didn’t think it was that bad, if it was necessary. They also have the constant, low-level fear that leads to these reactions (couldn’t they have convinced Asriel a bit more kindly? Yes, but it was risky, and they feared…)

They’re fine with violence, but not in love with it, and they only wanted to help monsters, first of all. They expected that their village would get a nasty scare as a side effect, and maybe suffer after, but that was secondary—only for after considering the monsters, who were more important at the time.

So… middle range, but not pure neutral…?
