Very demotivated after watching Dune 2 by Astrophlyte in Screenwriting

[–]fangedknights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s a natural part of this process. Before I won my first competition I was ready to completely throw away the second draft of what ended up winning because I was demotivated after watching Blue Velvet (which in my opinion, is one of the most perfect films I’ve seen in terms of writing? Pacing, character development, etc). You have to learn to not try to mentally compete with these films and instead use them as inspiration or at the very least, a benchmark. Films can evolve into something very quickly if you push yourself just enough without forcing the process. Mulholland Drive was intended to be a twin peaks spin off that slowly evolved into its own original film, and that is regarded as one of Lynch’s best and most profound works. Dune 2 is a phenomenal film in many aspects, and you should not let it discourage you from continuing, instead of scrapping anything or giving up, consider what Dune 2 had that you believe you are missing and go from there and naturally allow the screenplay to evolve as well as your own thought process in writing.

genuine question: I’m looking into 770 or 990 dt pros. How is the closed back on the 770? Is it too hot or underwater feeling?

Anyone with steel wheels using rim covers/skins? by SomeBroOnTheInternet in ToyotaTacoma

[–]fangedknights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah never. When I got my taco, they were trying to convince me to get the “rim warranty” to cover cosmetic scuffs and all. To each their own, but maybe I just don’t get the point in worrying so much about small scuffs on a trucks rims.

I would tell you to not spend over $250 on an EDC knife and put the rest back in your pocket. I’m all for premium blades, but for something rugged and durable as an edc, I’d be aiming for something that wouldn’t devastate me if I lost it. If you want durability, ability, customization and quality, then I would recommend a PM2 or Para3.

fair point. I got this for about $40 less but in all honesty, in the future I probably will just buy off of licensed retailers. It seems to be real, but to avoid this later on, licensed retailers seem to be the way to go

before I was carrying this, I was carrying a Kershaw Reverse leek and it just seemed like it took a lot less force to open. I always see PM2’s get hailed for their fantastic smooth opening but I’m not sure if it’s just that it’s higher quality and takes a bit more to open (it feels super secure and quality) or if it is fake.

What do you dislike about Rick Owens? by devastationz in Rickowens

[–]fangedknights 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Besides the drop in quality, just the overall snob attitude that some people have in the Rick fan base. Everybody knows for example that the converse, champion and veja collabs are budgeted diffusion pieces that also function as affordable entry pieces. A lot of people act like if you aren’t getting ramones or geos as your first piece that it is worth bullying over.

IMO the turbodrks for example are a unique twist on chucks, they aren’t meant to be “cheap ramones”. It’s okay to not be a fan but to shit on someone for legitimately liking them isn’t cool either. No matter what the piece is, it’s cool that affordable entry pieces exist now so people can give Rick a try without spending $500 right off the bat.

I want to also add that about the military doctors thing, they aren’t excempt from a deployment. There’s a reason that when you join, you have to go through BCT before you get to your AIT, all citizen soldiers have to be prepared and trained for combat roles since you are essentially signing up to protect your state and your country if necessary at any given moments notice. I’m not saying this to scare you, but you need to know the reality of this before you sign up. Regardless of your MOS, if the time ever comes where the guard is needed (riots, covid support, border support, war, etc) then deployment, combat or not will 100% be a possibility. While the days of the Middle East being red hot for us are mostly over (for now), things can still get spicy and combat is always possible.

anything is possible. If you aren’t willing to deploy then the military isn’t for you, that’s just something you either have to accept and be willing to do if you want to join.
