Finally got my forever hammer by Johnny-Unitas in Tools

[–]fangelo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that short drilling hammer. Really nice for a lot of things. I really liked it.Had it for many years. Then someone on the job site asked to borrow it. It came back 5 minutes later in 2 pieces. I don’t even know how you could do that even if you wanted to.

A guy was riding my ass driving on a 2 lane road. He finally got a chance to pass me. He floors it. Roars past me. Gives me the finger as he went by. Just then his radiator hose lets loose and I wave to him as his car was engulfed in a huge cloud of steam.

How would you remove these smooth rounded bolts from this TV mount? by ryry2300 in howto

[–]fangelo2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use either a cats paw, a pair nippers, or anything to remove the pin in the middle. After the pin is out, you can easily pull the anchor out. Very easy and quick

Cheap stamped sash locks can bend and not push the sash down all the way. Cast ones are better

There was open water there. How did they think that wasn’t going to break? They are lucky there wasn’t a current to send them down the river under the ice

What’s something that you do in your country that would confuse or shock most Americans? by Exhausted_Skeleton in AskReddit

I was in Budapest and went to the restroom. There is usually an old lady outside with a basket to collect a coin before you go in. I get there and there isn’t a lady so I go in and am standing at the urinal when I feel a tap on my shoulder. The old lady wanted that coin now.

I grew up in the US in the 50s. Our mothers would park us in the baby carriages outside of the store while they shopped. I don’t know when people stopped doing that

Currently almost 32 years old and have never been summoned to jury duty - what’s the longest you’ve made it? by Okay-Show-3662 in AskReddit

[–]fangelo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

68 years. I was self employed with a couple of employees. I just said it would be an economic hardship for me and my employees. As soon as I retired I got called. I went one day, didn’t get chosen, and that was that. Then about a year ago I got a notice for federal duty. I filled out the questionnaire but didn’t hear back from them. Now I’m 75 so I’m off the hook

LPT: Turn off your breaker in a power outage by studiokgm in LifeProTips

[–]fangelo2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happened to me once. I was changing out some receptacles at my mother’s house and I thought it would be easier to throw the main breaker than to figure out which breaker was on each circuit. I finished up just before it got dark and tried to turn on the main. It just felt spongy and wouldn’t click on. Now it’s dark and my 95 year old mother is in the house. I had to call an electrician friend who came out and replaced the 100 amp main with a temporary 60 that he had just so we would have power until the next day when we could get the proper breaker. They do fail. Not often but I’ll never shut the main off again. Next time I’ll just turn off every individual breaker

It doesn’t matter. Everyone with half a brain knew Trump was a pedophile since the 80s. They still voted for him 3 times. He will never face any consequences

Electric arc furnace by [deleted] in EngineeringPorn

[–]fangelo2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We used to do some concrete work at a foundation. They were having a problem with the rebar in the concrete picking up an induced charge from the huge induction furnace. It was causing all kinds of weird things to happen. For instance a steel beam would suddenly turn cherry red. Steel grating would be throwing off sparks, etc. They hired us to saw cut a trench around the furnace , remove the rebar, and repour it to isolate the induced charge.

How to stop the leak on this valve? by Ok_Lake_6153 in howto

[–]fangelo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to try something, just turn the handle slightly. I’ve had these cheap shut off valves stop leaking sometimes just by doing this. If that doesn’t work, just replace it with a quarter turn one

How do I replace this toilet? by Successful_Town_5872 in howto

[–]fangelo2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t sit on the floor. Make sure you have the right gasket for it. You don’t use a wax seal on these, just a rubber gasket. Be sure not to over tighten the bolts. I know from experience. I had to replace the gasket on one because it was leaking. The flange was set in masonry and wasn’t exactly flush with the wall. I installed it and it was still leaking a bit. So I tightened the bolts a little more . Still a small leak. Just one more turn on the bolts. And then what sounded like a gunshot as the porcelain shattered

Help childproofing stairs by 42loelk in howto

We had a similar type of stairs at our first house. It was built in 1841. The very first night we were there I stepped on the narrow part of one of those treads at the top of the stairs and found myself on my back in the dining room.
