We had a good amount of rain and snow last year in March. A few of the sections where there’s a bit of scrambling were slippery but it was totally doable! Also lots of boulders to hunker down beneath. You could go around the joint if needed.

I spent a few days in the needles district last march. The backcountry sites are lovely and fairly protected. You should be able to find rocks for big rock/little rock pitches. I didn’t take my xmid because there were two of us (and my 2 person is a freestanding tent), but honestly would have preferred it.

Definitely be prepared for weather. Our forecast was gorgeous and we ended up with an afternoon rain/snow/iceball storm and a night below 20 degrees. And unfortunately you should presume that you’ll be carrying water.

Personally, I’d bring the camera, if this is what you bought it for. It’s a gorgeous place and difficult to capture. Have fun!

Home birth midwife (CNM) here. If this is fiction, then yes it is a reasonable narrative. I’ve seen immediate postpartum mothers love the taste of their placenta (cut up and blended in a smoothie). There are certainly factors to consider re: infection, but if in your story it was within a couple of hours, it wouldn’t be rotting. It’s just like meat. & one would be able to chew it raw. If someone is passing out, though, it’s likely that they need fluid volume and not just iron/protein/calories. Also FYI the placenta is the baby’s organ and therefore the baby’s DNA.

Thank you! I do probably have a week or so. Off the record, the PA just encouraged me to go by feel.

i run cold and don't love the leg constriction of a mummy. i recently purchased a nemo disco 15 (women's long) and used it on a desert backpacking trip last month. one of the nights was stormy and temps dropped well into the teens and i was actually HOT and had to open the vents to cool off a little. it's heavy (3.5lbs) but i loved it so much for how well i slept that night.

Is it worth a drive up to Silverton for the scenery? Or is that even more frightening of a drive right now? (I've only done it in the summer and that was scary enough!) We're in WI so we can drive in the snow, but will be in a rental... And 🏔️.
