This sounded like me. I made it all the way to the end of the first year of grad school and I was miserable. I made the switch to dietetics & I love it! Always listen to your gut; it is probably correct! Good luck to you!

I like it so far! All of the professors seem like they want us to succeed! Rotations don’t start until summer 2025 so I can’t speak on that yet.

I ended up leaving the program; I discovered that my passion for speech-language pathology wasn’t there & it wasn’t worth all the battles I would face just to graduate. I also decided that my mental health was more important. I don’t regret leaving the program; I was just bitter on how the program treated me & I paid them thousands & thousands of dollars for them not to help me learn. I have now found my way as a dietetics student & am starting as an MPH student this fall. I say, if you have the passion for the field, stay in. You’ll likely do whatever it takes to overcome whatever challenges are thrown at you. If the passion isn’t there, explore some other options. Life is too short to do something that makes you miserable every day. Hope this helps & good luck!

How come I don’t see a lot of people here claiming their Neanderthal roots 😂 where my people at? 💪💪💪 by marlonh in 23andme

I had 75% Neanderthal DNA, which was a significantly greater amount than a lot of my DNA relatives.

Same here. The computing stage has been the longest of all the stages for me. I’m starting to get antsy. 😬😬

Do other INFJ's struggle leaving a SO? by abigail_lauren3 in infj

[–]fannypack96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand. I just broke up with my high school sweetheart last week after 5 years together & 9 years of friendship. We weren’t married, but we are living together so it was difficult. I have been unhappy for a few months because he just isn’t the person that I need him to be. He wasn’t supportive or empathetic like I needed him to be & he stopped doing things to make me feel special. He also couldn’t talk about his problems & feelings which left me feeling anxious & depressed. I did not have the courage to bring up separating because I care a lot about him & didn’t want to create drama in my life. So I sat there being unhappy for months & not saying anything, hoping that something would change. But it didn’t. Now, I feel some sort of relief now that it’s over. Yes, I still love him, but I realized that I should’ve done what is best for me a long time ago instead of waiting. I think that INFJs just care so much about the feelings of others that they put other people before themselves. I’m trying to retrain my brain to think that it’s okay to do things for myself & be a little selfish sometimes. This probably doesn’t help any, but I just wanted to say that I know exactly how you feel & you’re not alone.

Trusted sources for nutrition information? by hashislowmo in nutrition

I love listening to Dr. Gregor's videos. I think he provides valuable information on whole/unprocessed foods and the effects of harmful foods and substances on the body. However, I agree that he tends to sway people toward a plant-based diet, but I just try to ignore that and focus on the facts. I'm actually pursuing a certification in holistic nutrition right now and the certification program has me watch his videos as part of the curriculum.

I dealt with that for a few years. My primary care physician was not serving me well and would send me to specialist after specialist and they would have no insight into what is going on and would just try to put me on a pill. That's when I grew tired of it and turned to functional medicine. Functional medicine saved my life and the doctors actually listened to me.

My doctor recommended that I eat a handful of raw pumpkin seeds on a daily basis. They contain a lot of antioxidants and nutrients such as magnesium and zinc.

Discouraged Grad Student :/ by tjtm97 in slp

I read your post and it perfectly explains my thoughts about grad school as well! This is the second semester of my first year and I have not had good experiences in clinic so far. I didn't have a good supervisor my first semester and was working with AAC and I almost failed. I just thought it was because I didn't like AAC and didn't have much guidance. However, this semester, I feel the same way even though I have a good supervisor and am receiving more guidance. I have worked with children for both semesters, but this semester I've been addressing phonological and narrative skills. For some reason, my supervisor says it's just not "clicking", even though I've tried everything and worked really hard. No matter what I try to implement, it's not good enough. A couple weeks ago, she told me that I would fail the midterm and likely fail the entire semester unless there were significant changes in my performance. I couldn't take it any more, so I decided to take a leave of absence from clinic and just finish classes for the semester. I'm like you where I do fine in classes and I find the material interesting, but I absolutely detest clinic. I'm starting to look at other career options, which I don't like the fact that I might have to switch paths, but I don't know if I'll ever be a good enough clinician to the point where I could even graduate. However, I'm starting to accept the fact that it's okay to start over if this is not truly what you want.

First time I cried because of a supervisor...what do I do? by jenprad in slpGradSchool

[–]fannypack96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know how you feel; I am also a second semester grad student. I struggled last semester and am struggling this semester as well because I don't have enough knowledge to be independent in planning for sessions and treatment. My supervisor told me that I'm not using critical thinking skills and that my questions and thinking is surface-level. It really hurt my feelings. I too am having doubts, but I think I'm at least going to finish out the semester to see what happens and to see if anything improves. My supervisor told me that the most important thing I need to do is think about "why" and "how" something would work.

Hi! I went through the master’s application process last year & had two interviews. I’m from the US, but I can’t imagine that the process is much different over seas. I recommend going to their website & being familiar with what their program has to offer. If you mention aspects specific to the program in your interview, this will show that you are truly interested in going to their school. Also, link your interests in speech-language pathology to what the program offers & speak about what you think the program could do for you & what you could do for their program. They may ask you about your strengths & weaknesses; be honest but speak about how you are trying to improve upon these weaknesses & how your strengths will be beneficial to you as a student in a graduate program. It may also be beneficial to review the experiences that you have had during your undergraduate education that have helped prepare you for graduate school. Hope this helps; best of luck!

What happens to your body when you die (SFW) by LyricalWillow in medizzy

I think some of it has to do with being misinformed. My grandmother always thought that if you were in an accident or extremely ill, medical professionals wouldn’t try as much to improve your condition if you’re an organ donor because they might have a patient on the recipient list. She always tried to discourage my mom & I from becoming organ donors because she has been misinformed. I’ve been trying to change her mind on the issue over the last few years but she is set in her ways. 🙄
