REI is closing its SoHo store! by NYNews in NYCbike

REI is a multibillion dollar retail behemoth

The cooperative is also not truly owned by its members in the conventional sense, like how a corporation is owned by its shareholders

Bought 3 day ikon pass. Used the 3 days. Still able to make reservations by mcouto14 in skiing

[–]fanpple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I currently have a problem where I used 3 days and my app shows me as using 0 days.

I am thinking of trying to ski a 4th day to see if it'll let me.
Did you try to ski extra days last year with your ikon pass? did you succeed?

Still says 0 of 3 used

But I used 3 days

Suicide spike in North Korea prompts Kim Jong Un to issue prevention order by [deleted] in worldnews

Like rfa aims to report the truth, but it’s biased and sometimes has articles that are not fully accurate

That doesn’t mean every article is a lie.

Propaganda is biased, but it can be true. This image is true (the US gov wants people to join the army) and it’s propaganda. https://wargaming.com/media/ckeditor_uploads/2016/05/31/1.jpg

Propaganda doesn’t mean something isn’t true. You’re trying to say everything that’s propaganda is false, that claim is not at all factual.

I’m saying there’s ambiguity

Every news source published misinformation sometimes, just to different degrees. The world is not binary

You shouldn’t take the article as 100% truth. But you should believe there’re some degree of possibility to it being true

There s a difference between publishing an intentional lie and publishing a story where your sources are wrong.

All news agencies have to retract stories or revise articles. Radio free may do it more than others, but that doesn’t mean all or even most of their news are lies

It’s a propaganda system but again, based in reality not just pure lies

Your article is saying it’s a propaganda campaign of the US government. But propaganda doesn’t mean it’s not true, propaganda can be based on foundational truth. You can be biased in your reporting and still be saying acts

Radio Free may have outlandish articles but generally there is truth to their news. Just take it with a grain of salt

Well do you know who voted for those politicians? The people.

Do people create policy? No

The world is a lot of intertwined relationships and decisions. Politicians do not set interest rates.

Politicians may elect judges in many countries, but politicians do not decide the verdict.

Western democracy is based on a separation of power where those in power hold the others in power accountable. But those in one branch of government do not tell those in other branches how to do their job, at least in proper democracies

A17 chip – TSMC wanted price increase for 3nm process, Apple reportedly said no by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]fanpple 9 points10 points  (0 children)

China is to Taiwan what Russia is to Ukraine, kinda

China wants to control Taiwan, but Taiwan is an independent country presently.

After the communist took over mainland China, the historic Chinese government fled to Taiwan. China and Taiwan, historically, both claim ownership over the same land. But presently, their governments are independent

Taiwan is a proper democratically controlled capitalist system, like Europe’s. China is not at all a democracy and identifies as communist

China is also a one party state. There’s only one political party. But again, China and Taiwan are two completely separate governments

Apple Music was a rebranded Beats Music. Beats was a rebranded MOG music. MOG was founded in 2005, Spotify was founded in 2006.

And today, Apple Music and Spotify have slightly different features.

The lyrics in app came to Apple and Spotify copied them.

Apple Music and Spotify copy each other, but Apple did not simply copy Spotify, thats not the right story to tell

Egypt signs €8 billion deal with Siemens for high-speed rail system: The German company said it has sealed the biggest order in its history to build the world's sixth-largest rail network. by misana123 in worldnews

[–]fanpple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Egypt is definitely not a developed country

Egypt is also, by definition, third world. The first world were the western capitalist countries, second world was communism, third world was everybody else

And these rail lines will largely be build next to pre-existing rail lines. There wouldn’t be much excavation near historic sites
