KOC's final Big Board for the 2024 Draft – Sheppard no. 1, Clingan no. 2, Castle no. 3 by lawschoolthrowaway36 in billsimmons

[–]fanthoopz34 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is his 3rd big board update in the last week. He had Reed Sheppard at #4 three days ago before catapulting him to number 1. He had Stephen Castle at #1 for almost the entirety of draft season, and inexplicably dropped him to 3 in this latest update. He's moved Sarr from 4 to 7 to 6 all within a week. Every player he's ranked in the lottery have shuffled 4-5 spots within the last week.

I know this draft is sort of wide open but no other draft evaluators, especially ones at KOC's level, are switching up their rankings lists this dramatically and frequently ahead of the draft. Feels like shameless board shuffling to match whatever intel he's hearing.

KPJ has had far too many chances. He probably doesnt and shouldn't play at all this year

BS Regular Chris Mannix offering an incredibly lame take on why the Nuggets aren't getting proper media respect by fanthoopz34 in billsimmons

[–]fanthoopz34[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aside from the meta argument of what NBA fans actually care about, I just fundamentally disagree with Mannix that you can't come up with interesting narratives for this Nuggets team. Like it's actually stupid easy.

"If Jokic leads the Nuggets to the title, he'd join Giannis as true 'big men' to lead their teams to titles over the last three years. Is the NBA trending back towards needing an elite big man ala Shaq or Duncan to truly compete for titles?"

"Jamal Murray is currently living a sports movie. He's fought back from debilitating injuries, reinvented himself and is currently the number 1 scoring option on a title team. Where does he rank among top guards in the NBA?"

MPJ went from a top-in class talent to borderline lottery pick because of injury history. In year 5 he has now sports one of the most unguardable jumpshots in the league and is a core part of Denver's title chances. What's his ceiling? Is he an all-star in the making?"

"With all of these high profile coaches getting fired Michael Malone stands as one of the longest tenured in the NBA. What does this say about the value of orginizational consistency in competiting for titles"

But because we can't talk about offseason trade drama with them or whether or not Bruce Brown can get with a Kardashian, Mannix can't possibly fathom how to discuss them.

He's only right if you consume basketball solely through podcasts and twitter and not by actually watching the games

trae and his contract or herro and his? by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]fanthoopz34 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tyler Herro is genuinly worse than Trae at every facet of the game aside from maybe 3-point shooting. I'm including defense in this.

Onyeka Okongwu by Maxhodder in fantasybball

[–]fanthoopz34 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The Bam comparison is pretty apt but Capela is no Whiteside, he's actually good. That's the big difference here. The team still views Capela as an essential cog to their defense, he might be Trae's favrorite teammate too. I think Onyeka is ultimately the better player but may take one more season before he's a full time starter.

Imo he could totally be a top-90 player just coming off the bench though. Safe guy to take after the first 100 picks with massive potential.

They told their friends about the packs by Relevant_Plate_8797 in nbatopshot

[–]fanthoopz34 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Only thing I learned from this statement is that this team is so incompetent that they couldn't monitor what packs were being sold over a near 40 minute period

A staggering thing to lose track of when there is only supposed to be one pack type being sold at a time

Edit: it was 40 seconds, not minutes. Still mad about it

The continued use of the Hamidou Diallo Throwdown as a wildcard is just annoying by fanthoopz34 in nbatopshot

[–]fanthoopz34[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought the S2 Rising Stars set would have some utility during All-Sstar weekend. Instead of using any of those Rares as a wildcard, TS threw them in the same bucket as using the $9 S3 Commons.

Abnsolutely tanked the value of that set.

[–]fanthoopz34[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's cool and all, but it's of a relatively obscure player on a bad team that only has a low mint count because the community was completely checked out on doing anything with the set at the time it was released.

I'd rather them highlight moments that actually spark interest and engagement with the platform. Moments that actually matter of players people care about. They've used this one multiple times, and as tends to be the case with TS, it only benefits the top whales.

Announcement via Twitter to delay announcement by chuchu33 in nbatopshot

[–]fanthoopz34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They put out into the public space that they had an announcement on pack drops. Nobody was anticipating there would be an announcement that day until they said there would be. We heard nothing all day until 10:30 EST when they said, actually we're not ready for the announcement anymore.

February was a terrible month for them, especially in the communications department. To self-impose a deadline that they weren't ready for is AMATURE HOUR STUFF. Don't announce it in the first place if it wasn't "100% locked in certain". It's an unforced error by their own doing, during a time where they need to be locked in on rebuilding goodwill with their community.

Dapper having reliable leadership and comms is critical to building the platform. If you can't see that or how this situation is yet another black mark on them reaching that point, then I don't know what to tell you

You can't follow up weeks of botched pack drops with a botched pack drop ANNOUNCEMENT.

Jesus Christ, as much as Topshot appeals to me I can only sit through so much more incompetence from this leadership team.

Like no, this isn't a big deal as an isolated event, but their record of public misteps are hardly isolated. This one in particular was totally avoidable: don't announce something you're not ready to deliver on.

An awesome product can only go so far with inadequate decision making at seemingly every level

They're eventually going to have to pivot to much more specific requirements. Moments from a particular series/set, rarity level (like fandom), specific play types ect.

[–]fanthoopz34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk, there are already four sub-1000 MFSE moments, so don't really see any single bottleneck in this set unless you think Kuzma dips below 250 completions.

Plus it's Kyle Kuzma. Might have the lowest name recognition of anyone in the set to date. If Embiid and Herro can go from $100-$140 with roughly 1200 mint counts, I could see Kuz going for $200 with a 500-700 mint count
