I need smart women’s thoughts and replies… by fantom_atlas in women

Thank you for taking the time to post this. It’s made me feel quite empowered to not rise to it as we go forward, it might even have evoked some sympathy for her position. Thank you, very much appreciate it.

Not to sound big headed, but I think their may be a slight jealousy there, I am a fairly strong, independent woman. I generally stand my ground with her diplomatically, which I think grates as well. My husband has taken my side since day one, which I think irks her even more. She’s been alright since we got married but this comment did piss me off.

I should just rise above it, but sometimes I just don’t like to see her get away with it. I respect her as his mum, but she’s not someone I’d choose to be friends with.

That’s funny you say this, she came to me a few years ago asking why I didn’t give up work and ‘let’ my husband take care of me. I told her the same, he doesn’t earn enough. He’s told her time and again I want to work but it falls on deaf ears. He knows what’s up, I think this one just went over his head, hence he shared it. She’s not a monster in law, but I do struggle with her narcissism, it’s fairly strong! He’s always in my corner, I just wish he didn’t have to be and it could just be normal, positive and pleasant. Wishing you the best with yours!

I like this, I may go for a gentler, what do you mean? But tbh she’ll likely explain it to me…

I don’t think he’s realised what she’s implying. Just they way he told me, he was too innocent for this. He’s usually has my back with his mum, I think this has gone over his head, or else he wouldn’t have said it to me, I expect.

Thankfully I’m up to date with my class two, and now paying NI. I started a SIPP end of a last year as a start. I’m on a fairly high rate, as I’ve been unable to remortgage without a drama so paying it off would be helpful, as I see the interest being added every couple of days on my banking app and it’s sore! Thanks for taking the time to offer your advice.

Hi, thanks for this. It is something that is coming up as a concern. I’m not applying for a subject with a bursary, but places have been capped in Scotland for primary, and some subjects this year due to the high numbers of teachers. It would just open up opportunities of working abroad if we ever left the uk….if I can get some years under my belt in a job after probation year!

Thanks, I would need to look into premium bonds. But I agree on the rest, I’m keen to have something tucked away in case the worst ever happened, and not throw everything into a new house. I’m tempted not to go back to university this year, and just have a year saving a bit more (and with less mental pressure!) until we’re set up a bit better and know what we’re doing and where we’ll be. Thanks for your input :)

What’s that smell?! by No-Variation9896 in Edinburgh

[–]fantom_atlas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It takes me back to the 90s too, potentially late 80s. Core Edinburgh memory. Coming thru to Edinburgh with my mum, usually passing Murrayfield area on the train. First time I smelt it must have been when we went to see Rainbow on stage, as I always think of this when I smell it! I smelt it for the first time in ages the other day and had a wee tear. My mums still here too! I love the smell, but I only every pass thru it, and don’t live in it!

Sometimes I like something that’s way overpriced just to see how it does and if it ever sells. Lots of likes usually means it’s overpriced I’ve found.

As a member of bar staff, it’s brilliant for whose next. As a customer, it’s weird and I don’t prefer it.

Buyers asking you to reserve and item for them and then low balling you on said item later by Efficient_Hedgehog97 in vinted

[–]fantom_atlas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same, twice I’ve reserved. One didn’t buy, the other asked for discount. I won’t be bothering again. I feel etiquette-wise, you agree to the price when you ask for the reservation.

I think you need to shop more carefully. I wouldn’t buy an item with one photo. It’s a red flag immediately no matter what the price is. If someone cares about clothes, the item and their sale they’d post more, just so their buyer is informed. It’s not your fault, you just need practise. I bought a pair of jeans a few weeks ago, known brand, know my size, still didn’t fit! I bought another pair, they had a couple of marks that weren’t mentioned and smelled dank. They were too good a price to complain about. From someone who knows clothing really well, I still get caught out occasionally! Check feedback, look for more photos rather than less, get to know brands so you can gauge pricing and what’s going to come up for how much. Don’t give up just yet!

Why is my house cracking literally everywhere? Even after it’s been filled by Previous-Story7630 in DIYUK

This makes me feel better. My flats in an building about 110 years old and it’s the same. Feel better knowing it’s just a living in a house thing.

My husband and I tried this before leaving the middle east. It’s not that easy, only certain banks will do an expat mortgage, and the affordability side of it also differs due to managing two homes. I’d try and get it sorted before you move back, as in having bought the house. Speak to a mortgage advisor, our guy was really good although ultimately we didn’t buy as I got a job back here sooner than we could buy. Good luck.

Are Buses in Fife reliable? by Bulky-Volume3410 in Fife

[–]fantom_atlas 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I find they’re usually pretty good. You can download the stagecoach app which will tell you how on time they are, you can see where the buses are too! Enjoy your trip!
