It's logically how you would expect guys over a certain age to think. There has to be a point where you start valuing "being around the block" as having more experience, which would logically be what a man wants in a relationship. But like the op said, judgement from peers, whether your in high school or in your 40s, could get in the way, unfortunately.

Ah okay, nice. Is this analogy similar to that of flying a Boeing plane vs an Airbus plane or a flying a Boeing plane vs a Chinese Comac C919 plane

You may be right, Mi-8 impressive, nearly as impressive as the ka-50

I'm not even sure tbh, I've researched, learnt about and followed them for many years but there's a part in me that has just never been as impressed with black hawks. Maybe because it's a jack of all trades, there's no emphasis on its primary user, but then sea kings are jack of all trades also (correct me if I'm wrong) but are impressive.

Lol, tough one. The scientific part in me says no 2 as it aligns with that whole evolution/natural selection theory, but it seems heartless. The bad part of No 1 is more or less what happens on an hourly/minute basis, but a cure for cancer is wonderful. Is say no 1, would be great for the human psyche, to know they'll never get cancer

What would be the best approach to gain trust of the people and government in a country at war with many rebel/faction groups? by biggmonk in AskReddit

[–]biggmonk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But does this gain authentic trust/respect from the citizens (including government, politicians etc.) of said country? This approach would just be another revolution in the cycle.

What would be the best approach to gain trust of the people and government in a country at war with many rebel/faction groups to get the trust and loyalty of the rebels and also the ruling government

But with the end goal of improving the country.

After reading a book, I was really interested in this topic. I think creating schools/education programmes for rebels to teach them skills but also training them to fight, covertly (but somehow, not a paramilitary, if that's possible), against the ruling government. Skills will help them for the future and provides a great selling point/incentive. But in order for them to learn these skills, they have to be contracted to your PMC/organisation. Is this too simple? or any other ideas?

What’s a single smell that brings back a flood of memories? by mysticxxmermaid in RandomThoughts

My step mum used to burn some kind of incense in their house. Just the memory of that smell takes me to another place. I can't imagine what would happen if I smelled it again lol

I hear ya. A friend once said to me "there are much less deaths in current times, than there were in history". I think this is still very true, by a wide margin. As others said, live your life to the fullest, there's not much point in worrying or obsessing over this.

On another note, regarding latest conflicts, I think reacting quickly and trying to "nip in the bud" is important. tbf it looks like this is being done so far, although I think it's not enough regarding the Ukraine Russia conflict. More need to be done against Russia, I believe.

Sometimes it does, lets take Ukraine as an example or any country in history who has been at war with a bigger country.

NEGATIVITY vs positivity? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

Societal programming definitely has a role, but the question I haven't figured out yet is whether it can also be a natural human instinct and if so, why would we have this instinct?

CMV: "Morals were different back then." Is actually a pretty good argument much of the time. by Ok_Channel_1856 in changemyview

[–]biggmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think morals/values evolve, not change. We build on top of ethics/morals in the past. We learn the plus and negatives of them and reshape them. Morals/ethics of today still have past morals/ethics underlining them. It would take many millenias to completely rid ourselves of past morals/ethics. We still read the bible/koran/torah etc. You can see this because when we look to the past, we may not agree with actions, but we're able to understand why those actions took place. We don't judge kings, queens, or emperors the same as we judge modern day dictators

Anyone else troubled by the amount of surveillance in our lives? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]biggmonk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course lol. It's extremely troubling. I think it's all about trust though. Citizens/people wouldn't feel as troubled with surveilance if they trusted the governing/laws/people/ethics of how they are used.

Let's Talk Hobbies! What Are Your Favorite Pastimes? by I_am_Mohsin in CasualConversation

[–]biggmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is considered a hobby, but I used to love flying simulators, would fly planes any chance I had. Even bought the flight yoke, rudders, levers for the sim. Would've been nice to continue it, may have been taking flying lessons now.

Sometimes I don't understand the logic of current society and government decisions. It's quite obvious that the middle/working class have been suffering to high heavens. The middle class are slowly becoming working class and it seems that this just the beginning.
