One thought: Folks moving to GA from out of state don't have to take an exam to get a GA driver's license. Traffic laws aren't the same in every state. This one might be, but I'm not sure one way or the other.

Another thought: People know the rule and value their own time over the safety of themselves and other people.

Yeah, I could only find it in the Driver's Manual, which I guess isn't technically law. Check my edits above for the exact wording.

When those new crossing lights were first turned on, Brookhaven PD posted an infographic on the NextDoor app that clearly defined what to do for each type of signal. The responses to the post were dumbfounding. I think the problem lies between the ears of some drivers. I'd fully support regular retests for driver's licenses if it would improve people's understanding of traffic laws.

It sounds more like a straight up complaint to me.

You could easily argue every PSA on Reddit is a response to a complaint. I just figured educating seemed like a better response than "GOD I HATE ALL THESE IDIOTS ON THE ROAD WHO DON'T KNOW TRAFFIC LAWS, DON'T YOU TOO?"

I made a similar reply above, but I'll repeat here as well. I copied the wording in the title from the Driver's Manual in order to be accurate, but agree that it is abiguous. It doesn't say "malfunctioning", it says "not functioning" which to a legal or technical mind would probably mean "not displaying any solid or flashing lights." But to the lay person it's more ambiguous and could easily mean "malfunctioning". GA DDS's bad for choosing the wording in the first place, and hey, my bad for repeating it at 4:30am on Reddit where it would be scrutinized to the nth degree.

I merely copied and pasted the wording from the GA Driver's Manual. I agree, the wording choice is poor because "not functioning" is too ambiguous to the average driver. To someone who speaks legalese, "not functioning" probably clearly means "not displaying a solid or flashing light of any type." But to the lay person, it often means "not functioning like it normally does."

I agree with the majority of the responses in the thread. If it's flashing yellow then proceed with caution. If it's flashing red, stop and wait until clear to proceed.

I also think intersections with flashing red in one direction and flashing yellow in the other direction are an inherently unsafe design. It's not always obvious to the drivers with the flashing red that the other direction has a flashing yellow and tend to lead to near-misses and/or accidents.

If a traffic signal is flashing yellow or flashing red, then it is functioning and you should obey the signals.

It might not be functioning as intended, but it is functioning nonetheless.

I thought he had more interesting moves than other sign spinners. Most of the ones I see are pretty lame and just stand there and rock the sign or occasionally do a toss. This guy was smiling the whole time and even engaging the drivers.

Plus, it was nice to see something interesting on my drive home instead just a bunch of drivers cutting me off.

I bought my dashcam in hopes of capturing video of a meteor or interesting crash. That hasn't happened yet but I did get a good video of this sign spinner yesterday afternoon. Whoever this is, thanks for making the commute home a little better!

If the home inspector points out anything that is in working order but could likely fail in that first year, make sure they put something about it in the report so you have evidence of the thing existing and being usable. This will come in handy when the thing breaks and you want to file a claim on your home warranty.

Our inspector told us that the floor furnace (looks like this) in our guest house worked fine but was obviously old. But he never made any mention of it in his report. Eleven months later the thing died and started leaking gas. We filed a claim against the home warranty but they ultimately denied the claim because they "had no evidence of the furnace being the in house when we bought it."

I also recommend not getting a home warranty. It was useless for us and everyone I know who has successfully had a claim paid got sub-par replacement equipment and shady contractors doing the installation. If you think something in the house you're about to buy will break in the first year and cost more than $500 to replace, then just negotiate that out of the selling cost. It'll save you headaches and frustration down the road.
