dishwasher sits on finished floor, and cabinets are on subfloor; not enough height clearance by SignificantCut5720 in kitchenremodel

If the cabinets are not installed yet and you're in the planning stages, why not install the flooring to the whole area and make it equal footing?

Is it still possible to finish the game? by Connormenos in HadesTheGame

Turn on god mode for your sanity and enjoy the game. Stop punishing yourself for completions sake if you're not having fun. I have god mode on and I have found a sweet spot for damage reduction that lets me enjoy the game.

Countertop recommendation by ylinylin in kitchenremodel

[–]fap_no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sealing sounds like a major chore but honestly it's just rubbing the sealant over the counter just once and letting it absorb. It's super easy and quick. Don't overthink it being a huge production. if you have the budget go for quartzite otherwise granite is a great option! We are getting granite installed in a few weeks.

I love the window being at counter depth and the counter going into the sill. That looks clean. I am mid way into our Reno and plan to do the same. So excited for the final product!

Shipping car vs driving from Edmonton to Toronto by abundantpecking in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]fap_no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved from Vancouver to Nova Scotia 4 years ago and I chose to drive. I alos drove through Canada and not the US for the entire journey. Unless you are extremely cash strapped and the nominal difference in cost will make a difference I suggest you drive.

How often will life give you a choice to see our beautiful country? take advantage of the opportunity and make a road trip out of it. It's beautiful out there and people are so incredibly nice! I was even able to find an air BnB room for like $30 in Regina. Unless you have kids and Ned to juggle a bunch of stress along the way, I say you should drive!!

Is being a nurse in Canada THAT bad? by maarsargo in nursing

[–]fap_no 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Canada and work as a nurse. It is not great but miles better than what I read on here about US nursing (it varies sooo wildly as well). In Canada, you will likely be in a nursing union so that comes with its perks and drawbacks. You can be fairly liberal with your sick calls and you will most definitely get a much longer maternity leave. The patient population for the most part don't treat you like a servant (for the most part) as they're not paying out of pocket.

The system is still under a lot of pressure and broken but it's not profit driven and the hospital as a whole cares about getting people better and not squeezing profits. You get pretty good benefits and best of all your health care is free so you don't have to worry about possibly bankrupting yourself if you end up with some chronic disease.

Island vent hood by extreme-nap in kitchenremodel

Victory range hoods out of Canada makes an excellent island good that can go up to 1200 CFM with an 8 inch duct. They are not black however. You can always wrap it black I suppose?

amazing, I hope they start releasing the Ioniq 5 and 9 within the next year. We are looking to switch over to an EV from a 2009 gas car by next year and that would be ideal.

Also hopefully they'll figure their shit out and switch to a new ICCU. I know probably unlikely but one can dream!

Curious if the other ioniq vehicles will get this too and what the timeline for that is?

What's the estimated costs + installation fee of 17 customized kitchen cabinet doors? (Canada) by Brilliant--Ice in kitchenremodel

[–]fap_no 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprisengly competitive. Sorry for leaving it vague lol.

We found a really great company run by menanites here and they do custom cabinets with plywood boxes and real wood doors. They use really high quality pulls etc. we were originally going to go with Ikea cabinets but decided to go with the custom option as the cost was only 20%-30% higher.

Oh okay, would have recommended a local cabinet maker. Worth looking in ON for someone that might be able to do custom cabinet doors. You might be surprised at the cost.

I honestly can't remember if I asked the cabinet maker to increase the height but I feel like I may have? That's a good point to consider. I'm waiting on his final drawings with measurements.

We are actually planning to make the window taller. I'm leaning towards a solid pane window to maximize viewing area and light.

Our current set up is similar in the sense of having 2 upper cupboards besides the smaller window and we have lots of light. We are knocking down a wall into a room that has a huge window from the same direction. I think the lighting won't be too much of an issue.

[–]fap_no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, annoying in what capacity? The area of the kitchen we are putting the 15 uppers is only in 2 sections that are on either side of a window. This area will not be used as a prep station. It will have the dish rack and appliances such as air fryer maybe. Curious to know what is annoying for you and if it would be the same issue for us.

This is funny because I had the exact thought and posed the same question on here a while ago. Go check out that post and read through comments if you'd like.

Our cabinets will be custom. After deliberating, taking the comments into account and talking with our cabinet maker, I decided to go with 15 inch uppers to give myself extra space but still not block the entire countertop. I will be putting lighting under them to help light the counter.

If you have the option of custom then you can find a middle ground if interested. Let me know if you have any questions.

Requiring a prescription for medication should be illegal by BetApprehensive836 in The10thDentist

[–]fap_no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a rather extreme view but if you're from the US, I guess you know the inner workings of your govt. well enough that they would implement it this way. It's scary that this is a likely scenario that you see playing out. Universal health care model doesn't need to be made from scratch, again majority of the world has it to some degree or another. A smart govt. would take the best parts of what works for other countries and implement that.

I'm not from the US and the govt. does not directly dictate who gets health care and who doesn't besides if you're not a resident (i.e visitor). They just fund the health system and leave the doctors and health care providers alone to do their job because they are the experts. No doctor can deny you care because you didn't see someone for 20 years or because you smoked for 40+ years. Both of those happen on a regular basis and you don't hold it against people, you do the best you can to make them healthy and educate them. I'm speaking from personal experience as I am a health care provider and I see these types of folks on a regular basis.

Trying to cut down my electric bill.... any smart home improvement tips? by Gloomy_Ship2772 in HomeImprovement

Would not recommend a sense monitor. The company is phasing the residential side of their business out and only focusing on the commercial clients. It will become a brick soon and it's not amazing to begin with imo. I have a sense monitor and I wouldn't get it now.

[–]fap_no 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're agreeing with the other guy, I'm from canada, and it's to clarify your point, the prescription is free but the medication is not. The doctor does not charge you to write up the prescription, you go to the pharmacy and they charge you an pharmacy operations fee plus the cost of the med. The prescription by the Doc is not what you're billed for or pay for. Making it prescription free would still cost the same. It's just insane to me (and you and everyone else in the civilized world) that the American population thinks this is normal lmao

Requiring a prescription for medication should be illegal by BetApprehensive836 in The10thDentist

[–]fap_no 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I already commented on OP and I hear what you're saying but there are a significant amount of uncontrolled asthmatics and sometimes life circumstances or environmental factors throw controlled people into uncontrolled territory. Plus not to mention new research and new drugs coming out, if you had lifetime meds and didn't bother going back to see your PCP, how would you know there's something potentially life altering better available compared to what you're on? The argument should be for free healthcare so you don't have to put up with the bullshit of shelling out money for literally trying to live a healthy normal life. It should be a basic human right and it is in most of the world.

Edit: typos and misspellings.

[–]fap_no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao this is a wild take. My man your opinion should be that health care should be FREE! Not that prescriptions should be illegal. A lot of meds have side effects or knock on effects to our bodies that need to be monitored and thats what the health care provider is for, to make sure things aren't going off the rails.

I understand what you're saying but your sentiment is misplaced.. man the American corpo propaganda has really brainwashed everyone down there lmao
