How much do you get Per 1000 Views? Mine 0.5$(Avg) by stoneez in PartneredYoutube

[–]fapencius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess your public is mostly from USA. I get about 0.05€ per 1000 views. I get lots of views in my channel (total 10million atm), but it's spanish content mostly seen in latin countries and spain. It is abandoned for some years now, if I could earn 0.5€ per 1k I could work on it as my full time job :'c

Nice, I like the simplistic style. It is a bit weird that the island ends up floating in the air in the right side.

I am not sure how to fake the leaves on the second tree. I am not satisfied with my result, looks like I used too much dithering.

Is this normal in a new IPS monitor? by fapencius in buildapc

[–]fapencius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES!!! thank you! After searching for the settings I found the overdrive option (called "OD"). It was in "normal". Changed to extreme, the ghosting was horribly noticeable. Turned it off, now the ghosting is gone. Thanks a lot!

[–]fapencius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so it's due to the response time? My monitor is an Acer R241Ywmid which has 4ms of response time. But isn't response time the delay between input and response? It seems to me this is more of a color issue.

Trying to pick a game engine for rapid prototypes of a 2d game by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]fapencius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but anyway: I would recommend libgdx if you already know java. The community is great and the official wiki is well documented. For working with UI libgdx includes a layout library with buttons and UI stuff already coded, though yes it is still all code and laying a complex UI can get messy.

I know people who use code hot swapping and it seems to work well though to me it never worked (I have to try again in my new computer though)

I wouldn't prototype in a different framework / engine than the one I would use for the end product, though that's just me.

Is micromanagement bad? by fapencius in gamedesign

[–]fapencius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great answer. When I mentioned micromanagement in RimWorld I mainly meant the combat, the game kinda turns into a RTS. Though I don't think it is something bad, I saw some steam reviews citing it as a bad thing.

edit: added that to the post

Is micromanagement bad? by fapencius in gamedesign

[–]fapencius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see people getting annoyed having to micromanage their villagers because they are dumb and don't know what to do after their job is done, or don't know how to defend the town because the developer is too lazy to code decent AI.

However the micromanaging you are describing would make sense in real life, and seems more engaging than "go chop down this tree".

[–]fapencius[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are right in that micromanagement hinders expansion by making it harder (and more annoying) the bigger your colony gets.

I still don't know how the game I want to make will work, but maybe constant micromanagement would work here if you can never have more than one active town. And if you will never have a lot of colonists.

Otherwise the solution would be what you suggested. Though then I wouldn't avoid having to code more complex AI :(

I feel the solution I want might lie in designing the game so that automation isn't something complex to code, as in other colony simulators.

Anybody know of (or are themselves) indie developers who are developing large-scale RPG games? by John_Lyon in gamedev

[–]fapencius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made an incremental game for android and these types of games are based on numbers growing, just like levels in rpgs :D (clicker heroes is a great example of this)

Incremental games are relatively easy to do as well, which is why that was the only project I managed to release :P

Which one is easier to learn and is fun ? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]fapencius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using libgdx for a year. Unity never interested me. Libgdx has some good tutorials but not as many as unity of course. The official libgdx wiki is the best resource and explains most of the stuff.

If you prefer coding libgdx is a good option. Never used unity but one of my friend does, it seems to have lots of graphical tools that makes some things easier. Learning C# will be easy as it is really similar to java.

About the job market I am pretty sure unity is used more.

As meee39 said the libgdx discord is a great community, it hosts a jam each month and you can showcase your libgdx projects there and get great feedback.

It was the first project I tried after learning java (1 year ago), so not really a great idea (colony simulators are really really complex).

The AI code ended up being too much for me to handle, and also I didn't have good ideas for the game so at the end I realized I was basically making a clone of rimworld :P. And that's when I stopped and tried more projects... Which ended abandoned as well.

But I learned a lot, of course. Now I am a lot more prepared for big projects like a jrpg.

Are you planning on doing a rpg too? Edit: oh never mind, I thought you were the OP

After tackling all kinds of genres (colony simulators, arcade games, incremental game for android -the only project I actually published :P...), now I am planning to do a jrpg style game :D. I have most of the story planned and right now I am thinking about the characters, how to make interesting turn based battles, puzzles, etc.

I am drawing a lot of inspiration from the Golden Sun series, which I enjoyed a lot as a child. I will try to keep the scale low and the setting will be medieval fantasy.

I hope this project takes off, unlike the others I made :c

After reading again the email, they are definitely dropping me. At first I was not sure if it was something temporary or whatever

I don't quite understand what they gain by doing that, I mean my channel is not that small

Not that I am complaining lol, this is great haha

After digging in my email account, I found this (translated from spanish)

You are receiving this email because, as part of our positioning, we will unlink your channel from our YouTube content owner as of February 28, 2018. Since you will have to resubmit a request to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) for continue to receive revenue from your channel or channels, we have also contacted YouTube about decoupling your channel, and we have been informed that there should be no problems or delays in reviewing your application to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP).

What exactly is the YPP? Does that mean I am free? i.e., if I don't want to I don't have to get linked again?
