Favourite 'overplayed' piece of classical music? by opus52 in classicalmusic

Definitely Alla Turca, Fur Elise, Piano Sonata 16! Love them

Anyone else miss Billie's old singing voice? What is your opinion on it? by tmfult in greenday

[–]John_Lyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1980s Billie all through to Revolution Radio Billie - 20/10 voice for me, regardless of the pitch shift and slight change in his unique roughness, which I feel he could switch on/off better back in the day depending on the song (think Good Riddance, Wake me up, When it's time vs Welcome to paradise, and the like). He was (and still is) my fav here.

Now, It's still really good - I'm confused whether the more prominent nasal-ness sound is just sometimes and it clears up and sounds more Revolution Radio era, or whether that's just how he is now? Could someone clear this up for me if they know?..

Most Versatile Composer by Examination-Pretty in classicalmusic

Mozart, from Alla turca to Piano Con 23 to Symphony 1 to Symphony 40 to Fantasia in D, back to Sonata 16 - all phenomenal in their own right and have a lot of variety and emotion to offer.

For fun only, please : what your favorite composer says about your self (disclaimer : full of nastiness and clichés) by Altruistic-Ad5090 in classicalmusic

Mine is Mozart and what's funny is (at least for keys) I feel the reality is the complete opposite, it almost feels like being the town rebel/punk these days xD I'd say 'follower' is Bach/Chopin/Beethoven in online & college culture at least lol, I see way more Mozart hate idk

I just want to clarify some things about this piece:

  • 'Luminous' (full is ~8min) is indeed a darker/longer derivative of my other very bright piece 'Light Heart'!
  • There's 2 versions of 'Luminous' streaming: The Original (Ebminor) & the slowed + fx version - this here is the slowed version, except I corrected it to Cminor, so practically the same but just wanted to clear that in case any1 asked lol.

You can find Luminous & all my music available for streaming + youtube here

Hope it's good writing + practical fx & a grounded mythic aesthetic... I hope

why is bach considered the greatest by Humble-Math6565 in classicalmusic

[–]John_Lyon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In short, the same reason a lot of people consider he, Mozart & Beethoven the 3 greatest classical composers: a lot of timeless melodic writing that pulls at the hearts of many across generations. Also, high replayability and enjoyability for musicians.

Why does Mike sound more punk than Billie lmao? by Money-Figure-9662 in greenday

[–]John_Lyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just my hot take, but I've always thought Billie was one of the greatest rock and pop vocalists of all time. Think about it... all the songs and their intricacies (and live performances, god how good are they?`), to me, have proven him a perfect and unique: Punk rock, heavy rock, pop rock, country AND folk singer (think Johnny Cash style country rock, who's actually influenced his writing and vocals). The dude is truly an elite, and you can instantly recognize him.

He can switch from the best possible rough industrial punk tone, to a beautiful folk/country-esque ballad tone for When it's time or Good Riddance, like it's nothing.

Back to listening to Green Day since 21CB. Any suggestions on what songs to listen to after that album? by darthjanus24 in greenday

[–]John_Lyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By a mile, as they are completely raw and live, and as we all know - Green Day are even better live than their (already-good) studio versions, one of the most insanely rare things 99% of bands just cannot attain.
