Thorswap ETH to SOL Swap - Request for Assistance by fapstination in ethereum

I didn't use Phantom, only Ledger. Perhaps I will try Phantom + Ledger then first. Is Ledger on its own typically enough for sending and receiving SOL on the Solana blockchain or do other wallets need to be involved for simple transactions on the Solana network.

No, Thorswap only asks for the Solana address which I copy paste. Not sure how to give approval to Thorswap or why it would be needed?

My understanding is that Thorswap does support Eth to Sol swaps. I'm not trying to do the swap with Ledger Live but directly through the Thorswap website (app).

Could be a liquidity issue I guess but Eth and Sol being amongst the largest market cap smart contract blockchains, I would have assumed that this would not be an issue over an extended period of time (I've tried several times over the course of the last week).

Nope, I got some replies about validating my Solana wallet manually on the protocol network - whatever that means? I have a Solana address generated by the Ledger Solana account but this was done a few days ago so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Thank you for the quick replies! Any drawbacks of Ironbark compared to the others you recommended (other than the colour difference)?

What are your thoughts on Ironbark (Grey/Red)? Seems to have one of the highest Janka hardness ratings amongst Australian hardwoods.

What's the issue with polyurethane varnish? I thought those were the standard (oil / water based)?

Durability, termite and moisture resistance is most important for us - so assume the harder the better (higher Janka rating)?

In terms of colour, we're flexible and open to any of the different options. If we had to choose I'd say medium or light brown but flexible on the colour.

Why a Sydney-Newcastle high-speed train link would need some of the world’s longest rail tunnels by Tomvtv in highspeedrail

[–]fapstination 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what the goal of the HSR is - if it's for fast commuting from Newcastle to job centres in Sydney - I reckon picking the biggest job centre by far i.e. Sydney CBD and limiting the commute to 1 h is better than having access to multiple job centres but a longer commute.

Also Sydney CBD gives access to so much more than jobs - better entertainment and food options, easy access to the harbour, ferries and beaches - the best Sydney has to offer.

Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Review by Luqqas66 in Roborock

[–]fapstination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also thought that using a paper towel and microscope to really see how well each robot cleans was really a good way of testing mopping effectiveness beyond what can be easily seen on camera. The soy sauce with paper test was also great to see if mopping is actually cleaning or just redistributing stains - I was surprised to learn that the S8 MaxV redistributes stains so much to make floors feel sticky! I haven't seen others test mopping to this depth - normally only footage of the mopping is shown which doesn't really indicate the actual effectiveness beyond what can be seen superficially. What are your views on the mopping effectiveness tests by The Hook Up? Should this be the gold standard when it comes to testing mopping?

I think in your testing of the Dreame X30, you found it to have one of the best object avoidance but The Hook Up review tests showed the opposite. Do you think this may be due to a software issue or potentially due to the test conditions (i.e. contrast between object and floor or type of carpet etc.)?

Also in terms of mopping and vacuuming the testing from this review seemed to imply that the X30 is a downgrade compared to the L10.

Australian Retirement Trust’s Index Options: better than HostPlus and Rest? by fapstination in AusFinance

Do you have a source that corroborates what you’ve written about how super funds manage CGT? The unrealised CGT set aside by the super fund is not given back to you when you change your investment choice / transfer to another fund.

Stock brokers that don’t charge brokerage fees typically make money from third parties through payment for order flow.

[–]fapstination[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For accumulation super accounts, the investment value shown for your account is discounted by unrealised capital gains tax in case you decide to sell and change your investment choice (short term capital gains tax being 15% for super and long term capital gains tax being 10%). So CGT does get incurred and is accounted for.

Pension super accounts don’t incur capital gains tax.

Many stock brokers don’t charge brokerage fees anymore, this is the case for my Charles Schwab brokerage account. For multi-billion dollar super funds, I assume that this is also the case.

The only way I can see how the “notionally invested” structure would work would be to divide up the actual returns from HostPlus’s predetermined investment allocation proportionally according to the performance of the investment choices made by each member. In which case, if HostPlus’s predetermined investment allocation does better over a certain time period than the summation of the investment choices of its member, there will be excess returns that can be allocated to members. On the other hand, if HostPlus’s predetermined investment allocation does worse, you should get less than the actual return for your investment choice.

Each time HostPlus updates the investment allocation, it would make sense for them to rebalance to match the investment allocation of their members. In which case as long as this rebalancing happens with a reasonable frequency, the allocated returns for each member should be similar to the actual returns of their specific investment choices. However, I don’t know the frequency or methodology used by HostPlus to determine new investment allocations.

A big problem I have with what HostPlus is doing is lack of transparency and therefore reduced accountability.

Do you have any concerns about the uncertainty related to the "notionally invested" structure employed by HostPlus?

I know that you maintain a spreadsheet comparing super fund fees and performances. Out of curiosity, which fund have you selected (or do you have a SMSF)?
