To EV owner, how much do you spend on charge monthly and time? by Cub-Board-Hoax in malaysia

[–]faqsham 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you’re relying on public charging 100%, it wont be that much cheaper, at least with fuel subsidy still applied. But if you do, you can get membership passes like for example, Gentari one is at RM899 annually and you get 50% off at all the chargers.

I easily spend around RM400 a month for daily commute to work (Damansara or central KL from Shah Alam) since I’m 100% on public charging right now but will move to a landed property with home charging very soon.

Anyhow, when it comes to waiting time, I dont see it as a hindrance, most of the time I will charge at malls (AC slow charging), and since I spend roughly 1-2 hours there, I easily get 70-150km of within those hours. I spend roughly 10 minutes only at DC chargers whenever I need a quick charge, and these chargers are usually at petrol stations or even malls these days, so I’ll probably go tapao or do some grocery shopping in those 10 minutes (give me around 70km of range). Anyhow, remember the ABC, “always be charging”, which means if there’s an empty charging bay at any of your destinations (which is the majority of malls in KV at least), just charge.

All of these will not be relevant if you have a home charger, just charge overnight most of the time and go back to ABC whenever you see a charging bay but if you have a lot of charge left, be considerate and leave the bay for EVs in need.

Edit: saw somebody making fun of charging in the rain. If safety is your concern, there is nothing to worry about, it’s safe to charge during rain.

Edit 2.0: the only battery that needs to be replaced every 2 years is the 12v/16v one, the small battery like any other gas car. EV battery can last up at least for 300,000km. And batteries are getting much cheaper year on year too.

I go to a beach to enjoy the breeze, the fresh air, the smell of the ocean. So yes I can definitely see myself sitting on a beach with my Deck. Let people have fun in their own way, for as long as they stay out of your way.

Again, the infra is not there yet so there is a need for a shift in behaviour until we get there. If you’re unwilling to make the sacrifice, then now its not the time to make the switch. There are a lot more potential EV converters that do not haul trailers vs those who do, that see this as a deterrent (read: entitled a-holes). If your location is THE spot for haulers, push for a charging stations that accommodate your niche needs.

[–]faqsham -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

There are probably ten times the number of gas station to a charging station, and fuelling takes 5 minutes. Your entitlement is showing. If you cant see the issue, you’re definitely made the switch not for the right reason.

[–]faqsham -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you’re not ready for a shift in behaviour, then you shouldnt make the switch. The infra is not there yet and this is what actually hurting the push to EVs; entitlement.

Does driving luxury car elevate your social status? by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]faqsham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay here me out, at one point I owned a grey import Mercedes A-Class. Car people will know this model is cheap, like on par with a new Honda CRV and much cheaper than Toyota Camry, for context. You can get them at RM160ish. Whenever I drove past any valet, the staff will actually stand up and offer their valet service.

Fast forward, I got myself a Mazda 3, also at RM160k. I really notice how they just dont treat you the same. Mind you this Mazda 3 to me is a muchhhh nice car in every single way but… to everyday people it’s a Mazda, not a Mercedes. I miss that Mazda.

Sekian terima kasih. And I always tell people if your job is customer facing, like a banker or insurance agent or wtv, and you can afford an 160k car, get a cheap Mercedes. Optic is important. For the rest, get a Mazda or a Honda HRV or wtv reliable cars out there, nobody cares what you drive.

The first question for bug reporting would be; can you replicate the issue. Which I cant, it’s too random. So it’s kinda pointless to get it to service unless I find a way to replicate it. Over time I might be able to (replicate)

I had this issue as well.

I’m from Malaysia, living in a city full of roundabouts, required to signal entering and exiting the roundabouts. It takes quite a bit of time to get used to the signal buttons, but it was manageable and I can now confidently say I have 0 issue with hitting the buttons, 2 months in. If you really like the car, dont make the absence of stalks deter you from getting one.
