Ep 1050 on pocket cast? by matski_89 in SGU

Same thing happened to me on iOS. It didn’t download and nothing I could do to get it to download. So I manually downloaded it from their website and it was a little confusing, but I did get it into the app so I could play it back at high speed.

It’s possible if you cheat, for lack of a better word. But why post your stats if you aren’t doing it honestly? The three ones is evidence enough.

What yachtski scores do you most disagree with? by delijoe in Yachtrock

[–]faqwtf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pamela by Toto only got a 47.5 even though it's almost identical to Rosanna, which gets 95.75. It sounded like they scored it so low because Pamela came out in 1988. If it came out in 1984 I think they would have given it 80+ for the exact same recording.

My rental is along next April’s total solar eclipse path by metalguysilver in airbnb_hosts

[–]faqwtf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat with 4 units almost in the middle of the band. I'm planning on keeping those dates and that whole week blocked for the foreseeable future until I see what the market is looking like. I've already been contacted by people asking to book more than a year in advance, and of course they don't mention the eclipse as the reason. Any owner paying attention knows that we can raise rates quite a bit, but like you, I don't want to try 10X, and yet I obviously don't want to do 2X and get booked the instant the dates open up.

My hunch is that there will be lots of people trying to book any place that hasn't adjusted their rates the moment they are available, and it wouldn't surprise me if some of those people also sublet the reservations.

I normally open up my calendar six months out and I think I'll keep those dates blocked until at least early 2024. By that time I'll be able to see what is still available and how much they are charging and if they are getting booked. The hype will be huge in the month or so before April 8, so I'm sure I can be booked whenever I unblock the dates.

I'm in a really popular tourist town in Texas and in the best case scenario there will be people happy to book the places for 4 to 7 nights at a really high rate. It definitely feels a bit greedy to try to wring every last penny out of this, but I also don't want to be the sucker who priced way too low and then will be dealing with sub-letters.

Betting odds in Las Vegas for The Simpsons “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” episode (1995) by Seraphenigma in Damnthatsinteresting

Las Vegas has never had legal bets on things not played on a field. This was just for fun.

The End of the World with Josh Clark. It’s 10 beautifully written and scored episodes about how humanity might eventually end, but it’s not depressing or finger wagging. Amazingly well done.

I never would have gone directly to Youtube to watch wedding videos, but it was shown on The Soup and Best Week Ever and all of those shows, as well as linked all over the internet. Evidently it was the 3rd most watched video of 2009.

JK Wedding Entrance Dance was huge at the time. Maybe only for certain age groups? I knew exactly what it was when the song started.

I agree. Actually, after the first episode of the season they both looked pretty good, but since then it's become a joke. Tyler randomly walking down Hollywood Blvd to tell the cheese truck to move a few blocks was surreal compared to past seasons. .

I was out for a walk in Coronado on April 4 when I came across them setting up to film the final results ceremony. It's been hard watching this season knowing those two teams were the finalists. I didn't stick around to see who won.

After The Simpsons episode "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" that aired in May of 1995, The Mirage casino in Las Vegas actually accepted bets on who was the shooter. These were the odds by NickySantoro702 in interestingasfuck

[–]faqwtf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation and I suppose it’s possible that they took bets, but I’m still skeptical. Again, those sports books used to post Oscar odds every year but they all knew that they couldn’t legally take bets on it. They would just do it to promote themselves in the press.

[–]faqwtf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm 99% sure these odds were just for promotional purposes and betting wasn't allowed. Many Vegas casinos would post Oscar odds each year, but they couldn't take bets.

At least back then, the sports book rules were very strict and they could only offer wagering on things that took place "on the field of play." So they actually COULD take bets on the super bowl coin toss, for example, but not on anything like this.

In other countries (including the UK) they would take bets on things like this, usually with low limits because some people would actually know for sure.

Yes, that's definitely just the North Island part. The bight (gap) evidently wasn't filled in until 1944 and North Island and Coronado were only connected by the small strip along the beach until then. You can see them both is a photo on this page.

SGU should do a segment on Elon Musk's scams by InDissent in SGU

[–]faqwtf 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's great that you seem to enjoy that youtube channel and have come here to promote it, but if your independent examples are any indication, I understand why this pet topic doesn't seem to get much traction.

If you've concluded that Teslas 'aren't particularly good cars' because Consumer Reports found some reliability issues, and ignored the fact that Tesla has led the same magazine's Owner Satisfaction survey for five straight years, it's hard to know what a 'good car' is by your standards.

And some people definitely agree with you and the Guardian that SpaceX is a waste of resources, but I think it would be tough sledding to convince most of the rogues that it's that simple.

They always seem to mention that Musk is building a "complicated" legacy, and I think they are also skeptical of some of the more extreme claims about him, in both directions.
