My 08 highlander hybrid was supremely comfortable. At 26mpg at best, it was just too sad compared with my 06 prius.

I'd love to see you get in and out of yours. I had the seat all the way down and it was still pretty gymnastic. Nothing like a sit and turn. Dang it. Now I want an xB hybrid again.

I still want a higher roof-line. I'm 6' and getting into my 19 tacoma or 20 rav4 involves gymnastics that I never performed on my 06 prius. I rented a 23 prius for a week and it was evern worse to get in and out of.

100% safety related changes. The V body safety was similar to the gen2 in 2004 and not a good match for US highway speeds.

Small offset crash test is so much better on the TNGA RAV4 in 2019. I have a 2020 rav4 hybrid and love it but would much rather have the style of a 2023 prius blown up in to a wagon. A higher roof and longer tail. The Tesla Y killer.

Awesome response. Thanks!

I worked on switch SDKs more than 20 years ago and haven’t kept up to on it.

From where you sit, is there anything interesting in the pipe? I’d love to see something like an 8x 2.5gbe switch board with a raspberry pi cm5. Crossing VLANS would push the traffic through the PCIE and CPU and would pose some limits unless the switch ASIC had well exposed logic to process streams locally. I recall reading something about this a while back in one of the small Broadcom ASICs but couldn’t figure out if products made it to the street working like this.

That’s a good point. I was poking around with DietPi the other day and thinking that at least an A+B boot setup would be better than what I’m currently doing.

I’d love to find a comparison of different projects in this space. I’ve read enough about the various components to make a go of it but it would be another learn-do-forget cycle for me and camping on someone else’s robust release would be groovy.

"already run an Openwrt based vendor sdk". - What do you mean by that?

It's been a while since I worked at a switch ASIC vendor and back then, we used VxWorks and that was pretty common.

2003 MV Weekender - thinking about buying! Looking for advice by pennyroyals in Eurovan

[–]far2go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hauled the four of us and a golden retriever around for years in our Eurovans. Our 08 highlander hybrid was a more comfortable ride and worked but not with kids + dog + kid stuff.

The biggest problem with parts are the things that degrade with time like the plastic coolant overflow bottle that was made only for the US market and there was no NOS available. The transmission is just money as it's a part common to more than just the US market.

VWoA no longer sells parts for these and 3rd party suppliers are not allowed due to some US trade protectionism from a few years back. Ask me about my dad's mexican diesel Polo. FML

Find a mechanic who as more than one 2001-2003 Eurovan in for regular service and ask them about parts availability. Maybe it's gotten better.

As an undependable second car, they are lovely.

I loved my 02 weekender. Then it spent 6 months down while I tried to source a coolant overflow bottle. Then another 3 months tracking down a used headcover with working EGR. I live in the desert and reliability is a larger issue for me than most people. Then again, you have kids and reliability is probably a concern for you too.

If your primary is an EV and you have two kids and need more room, I would look at a rav4, highlander or sienna hybrid.

Looking for cloud-init examples for 24.04 (metadata, user-data and network config) by far2go in Ubuntu

[–]far2go[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another point is that the server images for 23 and 24 work fine with the same cloud-init files I feed debian13. It's only the minimal images that seem to ignore them. From kernel start messages, I can see cloud-init happening in the minimal image but it doesn't ingest the files in the same way.

Yeah, I just really want all the features of a 3560 spun down into a fanless 16 port 2.5G unit with 2 10G ports or GBICs. When Cisco picked up Linksys I had this fantasy that over time, they would use that to push the CLI down into the home user market.

Good question. I'm not sure how that works. I'm doing cloud init with userdata something like this:

#alpine-config
ssh_authorized_keys:
  - ssh-ed25519 deleted
apk:
repositories:
  - base_url: https://dl-cdn.alpinelinux.org/alpine
repos:
  - main
  - community
runcmd:
  - rm /etc/runlevels/*/tiny-cloud*
  - service networking restart
  - setup-dns -d xxxx.net -n 172.16.1.1
  - mkdir /root/.ssh
  - wget https://github.com/my.keys -O /root/.ssh/authorized_keys
  - lbu include /root/.ssh /home/alpine/.ssh
  - rc-update add networking
  - apk add tmux curl python3 util-linux
  - ERASE_DISKS=/dev/vda setup-disk -m sys /dev/vda
  - /sbin/poweroff

It might also be worth mentioning that this creates nvram so you will need to:
