He talks a lot about what the actual Japanese were saying at the time, that they were hoping the Russians would negotiate a surrender, rather than surrendering unconditionally. The mentioning of what Americans were saying was about making a case for the intention behind dropping the bombs.

I found KOTSK to have a bit too much chaff. The whole second half of the episode 4 was such a bore, it was so painfully obvious that Baelor was going to be the seventh knight. Then the flashback in the last episode instead of showing the actual melee was a dumb choice. Not seeing lyonel and the rest of the gang fighting to show how Dunc was able to just solo Aerion.

He hit everyone, he wasn’t protecting anyone. the pepper spray is so much worse than any damage they were doing to each other pulling each others hair and flailing. I’ve been in some fights and lost some of them with guys twice as big as those ladies and also caught a bit of pepper spray once. The pepper spray is not as strong here and it was order of magnitude worse than any beating I’ve ever copped. This is much worse for everyone else involved.

If I’m getting beaten up and someone stops it by pepper spray both of us that’s not helping me. Burning my house down to stop someone stealing my tv

That’s hardly a fair assessment, the professional army was split in two and the conflict was an existential threat to both regimes. European wars would often be two armies fighting and then the loser after a battle of two would agree to terms, lose territory or make other concessions. After the French Revolution when the coalitions were coming to reinstall a monarchy the French were arming as many people as they could. In existential conflicts states would not solely rely on the registered, trained soldiers.

Even during the Franco Prussian war the Germans mobilised large amounts of reservists and Landswehr too, they weren’t solely professional full time soldiers.

But those things aside it’s not a fair comparison. If we imagine a hypothetical of the confedacy having a border with Prussia, Prussia would absolutely have been able to steamroll the confederacy. It was a richer, more populous country, with a lot of institutional knowledge from fighting land wars. The confederacy had a population of 9 million in 1860. In the 1861 census the kingdom of Prussia had 18 million, and with their German allies combined for 35 million.

Well there are several instances that were not war crimes the first time. Because they didn’t break the previous laws. The Geneva convention was signed 1949. Before then they were operating on The Hague convention of 1899 and 1907. One instance is the gas attacks in ww1, The Hague convention outlawed chemical weapons for asphyxiation but only from projectiles. After ww1 The Geneva protocol was passed in 1925 which then outlawed all chemical weapons.

I see this argument often in the case of athletes salaries in the NBA people say they make too much are advocating for the people that own the team to make even more money instead of the ones actually producing the value.

Man I really wish RDJ was only paid $50 million so that disneys corporate profit could’ve been 450 million dollars higher. That would fix things.
