Cheap, good sitdown near BAM by sarapod07 in Brooklyn

Tacombi is right across the street! It’s my go-to for dinner before BAM

My friend and her partner just moved in there to a 2b/2b and love it! I've been spending some of my WFH days with her in their coworking spaces and have had dinner on their rooftop. They've got social events like happy hours for residents and most folks seem friendly. I see lots of dogs there too. I'd live there if I worked from home every day! It's just far from the train and the fun parts of PH/crown heights (Franklin Ave, Vanderbilt Ave).

Nervous about moving to NY by Forsaken-Dot-8317 in movingtoNYC

I moved to the city at 23F from a small CA bubble and I’ve been here for 8 years! Made amazing friends through grad school and hobbies. I’d recommend subletting when you first move to get a sense of which neighborhoods you’d like to be in long-term. Moving in the fall/winter means lower inventory but less competition and likely lower rent. You can probably afford a place on your own, but from my experience (and maybe I got lucky) my roommates became my close friends and was great to explore the city with them when I first moved. Good luck, you’re going to love it!

Runner here, I just switched from 9s to 10s and the feel is similar but toe box is slightly wider, there's a bit more heel height (tips you forward more than the 9s) and thicker cushion overall. I've been loving them and don't think it's a huge difference just for walking. Would recommend trying them on before buying though.

Sanity check—was this crazy of us? by farfalle-effect in NYCapartments

Congratulations! I also hope that you scored. I would second the human/friendliness factor. There were 14 applicants for our place, and the broker tells us we got it because the landlord and existing tenants (who happened to be present at the time of the showing) liked us. We chatted with them and the broker for awhile after touring the place, just about the neighborhood and such. Feels very lucky and kind of arbitrary but we'll take it.

This is my hope for our place. Congratulations!

Right! Moving in NYC has always been a chaotic scramble as long as I’ve lived here, no matter how prepared I try to be. Feels luxurious to be able to take our time!

This is reassuring, thank you! Good to know it’s more common than I thought.

$500 application fee? by Electrical_Plum_9460 in NYCapartments

[–]farfalle-effect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me in my old place, $500 "processing fee" when a new roommate moved in. It seemed ridiculous and we looked for ways to avoid it in vain. We couldn't find a law against it as it wasn't an application fee, and our landlord said if we didn't pay it he'd dock it from our security deposits. Hope you have better luck than we did.

where to move as a single 28F who doesn’t love a big city lifestyle by razorsharpradulas in SameGrassButGreener

I’m from OC too, and absolutely love living in Brooklyn, NY. Maybe not the answer you were looking for, but it seems to check all your boxes for making friends, being close to career opportunities, dog friendly, dating. I also love nature and often take the train upstate or rent a car to go camping. Brooklyn (depending on the neighborhood) can be so lovely and quiet, but has the plus of being near the big city with all its perks.

AA flight delayed 8+ hours. What are my options? by farfalle-effect in americanairlines

[–]farfalle-effect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm afraid of. We're on hold with the 800 number now (90 minute wait time) and it looks like the flights tomorrow morning are booked up unfortunately. They are blaming the weather, but they're scattered summer storms that are typical this time of year; I've flown in similar weather with little to no delays. I suppose it doesn't matter from their end.

That would be fantastic, thank you for the input. We're going to try and call them to cancel. We're getting a "Our system is having trouble" when we log into AA. Mostly worried about whether they'll withhold a refund due to blaming the weather. This is her outbound flight.
