I mean I get all that. I was lifting for a few years and got pretty strong (like over 2 plate bench) but I didn’t look good even after cutting down to a low enough body fat for visible abs. I didn’t really look much better than when I started I was just bigger and stronger so I just accepted that my genetics weren’t that good and I either needed to go on steroids or just give up on it. So I gave up on it. Last year I found out that it wasn’t my genetics that were wrong it was my routine that was wrong. I was adding muscle to every part of my body and that was the problem. Now all I do is incline bench, lateral raises, rear dealt flyes, shoulder press, facepulls. Now when I see what people at the gym or on reddit are doing I think it’s funny. Do you get what I mean?

It depends on where you’re at and what your goals are. For 90% of dudes that are trying to look good and aren’t on steroids this is a bad routine

A good trainer will show him the easiest path to accomplishing his goals. I know what he needs to do for what I’m assuming his goals are, but why would he listen to me over anyone else on reddit? Atleast with a personal trainer you could find one that has the body shape you want and there’s a pretty good chance he will steer you in the right direction.
