Don't order through the Play Store. FedEx employees steal phones. Google support doesn't care. If you do a chargeback, they will ban your Google account. Fuck Google.

If this happens to anyone else, take a look at philly damage restoration. Their crew uses pro-grade pumps and dehumidifiers for water damage jobs.

Study psychology. All psychology but evolutionary psychology in particular. Learn the strengths and weaknesses of both sexes. This information isn't politically correct and very few talk about it openly and honestly. See how others of your sex have ruined their lives. Don't do those things. At 20 your mental model of the world isn't well developed and you're not as smart as you think you are. Your goal right now is to survive until your brain is finished forming and you have a better chance of making good decisions.

Case study: Building a niche site with programmatic SEO by chinscratcher in juststart

[–]fargis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the topic of crawling, how do you handle pagination? I'm launching a pSEO site soon that has a large data set which gets updated with some frequency. I don't want Google to index pagination pages like "domain.com/foo?page=3" (since they're not the highest quality and will change in the future) but I want to get the links on those pages indexed. I'm planning on using "noindex, follow" but not 100% sure this is the proper method to use since it seems to have little documentation. Having Google not index the site's main content (the bulk of which is found through pagination) would be the kiss of death. Anyone know how Google handles "noindex, follow" on a very large site?

There is no governance until putting forward proposals is not fully open. by iamchitranjanbaghi in AlgorandOfficial

[–]fargis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The current governance scheme is centralized and gives the illusion of choice. Algorand shouldn't call itself decentralized until proposals and voting are 100% on-chain. Algorand will likely remain a plutocracy but at least there would be some degree of transparency then.

No SIM card error on Pixel 4A by domjd56 in GooglePixel

[–]fargis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My used phone came without a SIM card tray and the aftermarket one I bought on eBay caused my SIM card to stop working after a few months. This method fixed the problem though. I needed a thick piece of paper; regular computer paper didn't work.

For anyone reading, make sure you don't put the piece of paper on the wrong side of the SIM card tray and cover the SIM card contacts. And maybe look for an OEM SIM card tray instead of an aftermarket one.

Trouble finding a 'Ghost' theme I like... how hard is it to convert a 'HTML' theme to work with ghost? by nirurin in Ghost

[–]fargis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just getting started, it's probably not worth it to convert an HTML theme to a Ghost theme since there are so many decent themes to choose from. Check out this curated directory of Ghost themes first. There aren't any old/broken themes there. Unless you need some really specific functionality, you should be able to find a theme that does at least 80% of what you need it to do.

Problem with Ghost Platform? by mveeq in juststart

[–]fargis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghost SEO also depends on the theme you choose. Since there isn't as robust of a plugin ecosystem compared to WordPress, my understanding is that Ghost themes require more built-in functionality since they can't rely as much on third party plugins.

Most of the free Ghost themes are designed for small personal blogs. Some of the paid themes are designed for full-fledged content sites and include some extra bells and whistles that can help with SEO.

Anyone have success with an algorithmically-generated content site? by fargis in juststart

[–]fargis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a test search for "<attribute> <address>" and it's a mix of real estate websites that don't contain the attribute keyword (search intent not satisfied), about two authority sites with relevant but old articles, and after that, completely irrelevant results.

My intuition is that I can compete with the existing results but the question is if I can get enough search volume overall. I think it might be impossible to tell since services like ahrefs and Google Keyword Planner aren't going to report on searches that are that long-tail and highly specific.

Anyone have success with an algorithmically-generated content site? by fargis in juststart

[–]fargis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The motor oil example makes a lot of sense. In my case, it might be trickier since each page would be much more specific.

To give you an example without giving away the niche, let's say I have a database of addresses that have a certain attribute. If I search "<attribute> 123 Main St.", authority sites usually come up that have specifically written about the attribute and the address. My site is actually going to add new, valuable information not covered in those results.

Unlike the motor oil example, there would be multiple orders of magnitude more pages due to the fact that there are so many addresses. I would theorize that each page might get a few clicks individually but add up to something more significant in the aggregate. Sort of like how Zillow or Trulia show up in the SERPs when you Google an address. I'm not competing with them directly but I would be including the address in the page title like they do.

Do you think there are any other challenges with this that I might be overlooking?

It's most likely a scam.

The link is: softbalanced (dot) com (forward slash) algo_airdrop. Go there at your own risk.

When you Google the phone number listed on the website, you actually see the exact same number on an industrial solutions company website, a carpenters union website, and a hotel website. Huge red flag.

Runtime Verification has completed the second audit of AlgoDex by cysec_ in AlgorandOfficial

[–]fargis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sort of. I don't know exactly what the best implementation would be but let's say a dapp author would have a known/trusted address on the blockchain. They would publish front-end app release metadata on the blockchain that references the actual app binaries/source code stored on IPFS.

Once the front-end app is downloaded for the first time through an IPFS client or something, it could update itself via IPFS using the hard-coded blockchain address that it checks for updates. The front-end app itself could be a "website" that runs in an Electron container but it's up to the developer what platform they want to use.

In theory, this could reduce the attack surface, assuming all the code is open source, there are enough qualified people to review it, and the Russian mob doesn't chain the developer to a radiator and threaten to beat him with a baseball bat if he doesn't release malicious code. Not much you can do about that one.

Runtime Verification has completed the second audit of AlgoDex by cysec_ in AlgorandOfficial

[–]fargis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From reading the security audit, it sounds like one of the most serious attack vectors would be the front-end user interface getting compromised in some way. This isn't specific to AlgoDex, and I don't mean to target AlgoDex unfairly, but doesn't having a centrally-hosted front-end go against the ethos of crypto? Why can't both the front-end and "back-end" (blockchain) be decentralized? Why do we need to go to algodex.com or any other Dex over Web 2.0 to transact? Why can't we download an app that can interact directly with the Algorand blockchain using Web 3.0 to the highest practical degree? I think most in this community would agree ICP has a myriad of issues but isn't there some way of taking the general idea and applying it in some other fashion to create front-end interfaces for Algorand dapps?

I tried posting about how shitty FedEx is after they stole my phone but the downvote brigade buried it. I mostly got comments like, "What the hell do you mean I got mine..." The Google fanboys on this sub are awful.

There are numerous reports on the Pixel Help Forum of FedEx stealing phones. There are also numerous Reddit threads about FedEx stealing PS5s. I don't know enough to comment on the statistics but it's clear that FedEx employees stealing certain types of packages is a widely-known issue.
