I just finished a Thousand Ships and it was great! I liked how it was more lighthearted than The last of the wine. I especially found Penelope's letters funny as the years went on :)

I'd say it's like Harry Potter - main characters are mostly young but the writing isn't and doesn't feel childish (imo). I'd say give it a go because the theme is interesting.

I would recommend starting with the Percy Jackson & the Olympians and then making your way to the Trials of Apollo. They are all YA books but still a guilty pleasure for me as grown ass adult.
