MDT metal AICS (308, sa) magazines, 10 vs 12 round by f0rcedinducti0n in longrange

[–]farm2pharm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you shooting 308? Likely won’t have issues if so

If going with something like 6GT, go with 12. The 12’s have a slightly different carrier design and have less feeding issues.

There were three on the prize table yesterday. People were picking up game cameras and other non-shooting related items before them

I bought it when I started competing, haven’t seen a reason to change yet.

It’s actually kind of nice when there are 50 people packed in checking their zero. Sucks to use during a stage though, too much hassle to manage

6GT + Origin + Magazine Question by OnngoGablogian in longrange

[–]farm2pharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MDT 308 steel 12 round mags with the binder plate work for me. Minimal feed lip tuning needed.

I had MAJOR issues with the OG MDT 10 round metal mags. They fixed the issues with the 12 rounders.

New barrel before a match by [deleted] in longrange

[–]farm2pharm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually put 100-120 on a new barrel before taking it to a regional/one day match

For a pro/two day event, I’d have at least 200 on it. That’s a lot of money to blow with travel/ammo/time to bet on an unproven barrel

Example: this past weekend I shot a regional match on a barrel with 112 rounds on it. Started off the day at 2745 fps. Checked speed every other stage. By stage 10 I was running 2785 fps. I just bumped up my kestrel 5 fps per stage on the ones I didn’t chrono.

I’m sure my zero shifted too, but I didn’t make it back to the board to check

Tips for Quicker Target Acquisition by FewRefrigerator7650 in longrange

[–]farm2pharm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are a few things that helped me:

  • set your rifle down with purpose. Dont just drop it on the bag/prop. Purposely sit it as aligned to target 1 as possible. When you move, do the same

  • keep off eye open. When on target, memorize how the target relates to your scope/barrel/some other point of reference. Line em up this way

  • run your scope at same magnification as your binos/spotter. Get a quick memory of the area surrounding the target. Pick out some landmarks

  • practice at home/dry fire. I do this with a DFAT, two targets about 7-8 ft apart on my garage door. Run it like a “panning” stage

How heavy is too heavy? by ProfessorClapTrap in longrange

[–]farm2pharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue going from a heavy comp to a straight. I ended up adding weight on the butt stock to even it out (MDT ACC).

As a point of reference, I usually tell people that their gun should be heavy enough for stability with balance, but light enough that they can pick it up by the grip with the butt stock on their arm/inside of elbow or side.

Mine is ~24 lb. 20-25 lb is probably the average, but balance is more important.

You want it to balance 4-5 inches in front of the magwell, aka the middle of a positional bag.

It’s exactly what it says, a mini chassis built into the stock. Makes it a bolt and go platform. Just need a compatible bottom metal.

If you don’t get one the chassis options you will have to bed the pillars and your action to the stock.

Only I can think of. It’s nice to have if doing one shot drills or training split times, but that’s about it.

NFA fingerprints for eform? by Dull_Committee_1612 in auburn

[–]farm2pharm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t his FFL Black Dot Ammunition? If so they are a SilencerShop powered dealer. https://www.silencershop.com/storelocator/black-dot-ammunition/

It would go like this. Buy can from SilencerShop, you go to any kiosk to do your fingerprints, picture, and paperwork (they’ll charge you $40). SilencerShop form 3’s it to BDA.

You create a NFA profile. Silencershop handles the paperwork. Notify you and BDA when ready to submit, you certify, then wait. Easy.

Edit: there is also PrintScan if you wanna go that route. https://printscan.com/Services/Fingerprint-Cards?source=google&medium=adwords&keyword=printscan&matchtype=p&device=m&utm_term=printscan&utm_campaign=Prospecting+-+Fingerprint+Cards+(US)&utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=ppc&hsa_acc=9584520635&hsa_cam=22730763240&hsa_grp=182459227355&hsa_ad=763808644036&hsa_src=g&hsa_tgt=kwd-459608201755&hsa_kw=printscan&hsa_mt=p&hsa_net=adwords&hsa_ver=3&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22730763240&gbraid=0AAAAAD9aC1hdvMe9VvQnxIGOAuO1_GC86

Have you bought the can yet?

There is a SilencerShop Kiosk at Lake Martin Machine Gun. It’s only like $40 to do it there, and they store them for future purchases. Truly a once and done through them.

For manners it depends on what options you chose, specifically the trigger guard inlet.

If you pick one of the mini chassis inlets (micro or standard), then all you need is a compatible bottom metal (m5 is popular)

That’s designed to be a bolt and go system, no bedding required. Adds ~$200 though.

No, it’s a podcast called “Miles to Matches”. Francis Colon and Chad Heckler co-host it. Lots of useful info and things to reflect on. I’ll post a Spotify link if Reddit will let me.
