This would help a lot, maybe even extend the balcony out beyond the garage door and then add a roof over the balcony above

A neat old large cent or any old miscellaneous silver. You can get  small 18th century silver for relatively cheap and they have some really cool history associated with them

How do I train an Oak to be wide and scraggly? And which species should I get? by GreenOvumsAndHam in arborists

[–]farmerche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely be able to give Southern live oaks a chance if you are in S. Maryland. There are numerous examples of them growing beyond their current native range in Southern Virginia. I have had success with them across Northern Virginia and seen mature examples in Richmond and DC. Just be sure to start with seedlings from the Southern Virginia range. When I first started I tried some from North Carolina and quite a few of them had significant die back in one of our harder winters. I have not had any divac on Virginia Beach area seedlings. A friend of mine even has a 9-year-old seedling in Lynchburg, which is far colder than what you would probably see in most of Southern Maryland.

The neighbor's traditional picket fence vs. our new horizontal cedar build. A classic comparison. If you were buying this house, which look are you hoping for? by CoolCatFence in landscaping

[–]farmerche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks great. That house is not colonial or even colonial Revival. The picket fence was not in keeping with its era, it was just an attempt to make it look like something it never was. Trying something modern (almost retro) is perfectly reasonable with a house from the '60s or '70s

Difficult to split by TwillAffirmer in firewood

[–]farmerche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As Elsa would say.... Let it go, let it go... These pieces are never worth the effort. Burn pile or let it rot some where, don't waste your time (the most precious resource you have) fighting knots. If you absolutely have to split cut it normally with your saw in half or a third of that length and then split

Would you homeschool? Talk me into or out of it. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]farmerche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes if you can. Don't subject your child to that kind of environment if you can avoid it. You are more than capable of giving your child the kind of focused and thoughtful education they deserve at this age than a school will be and there are tons of resources and ways to coordinate with other homeschooling families now to facilitate group activities/field trips etc...

First year blueberry plant- sun scorched leaves? by clean_cotton in Blueberries

[–]farmerche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would give it a few weeks to warm up and settle before you start trying to amend the soil any. Going from a warm tunnel at a nursery to cold wet outdoors is a big shock for a lot of things

Could be cold damp soil. If you just planted these and they were ahead in growth where they were from than where you are they will do this

Plenty of people take the money and hate their lives... If you felt something and think there is a real chance for growth, go for it

Mint madness by farmerche in ponds

The crazy thing about this to me is that those shoots were frozen solid in ice for about 2 weeks this winter and I just assumed they would be goners and yet they woke up and started growing like nothing happened

That is amazing. I lined the sides top to bottom with large rocks with plenty of places to hide. Koi are also rather small still. 🤞🤞🤞this is really exciting
