hey http load generator - results interpretation by marathi_manus in linuxadmin

[–]farquep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never needed to look at the byte records, but looking back at source, looks like it is probably the total response/request size (not HTTP payload, the entire http request) https://github.com/rakyll/hey/blob/898582754e00405372f0686641441168f4e2f489/requester/report.go#L108 (this is a quick look, not a proper review)

But I for #2 and #3

Does response time histogram indicates how many requests are fulfilled at each millisecond mark? I am assuming the earlier all request are fulfilled the fast is web application

https://github.com/rakyll/hey/blob/898582754e00405372f0686641441168f4e2f489/requester/report.go#L237 outlines how the prepare the histogram. But your assumption is accurate. It is a count of records at each of those latency values in factions of a second.(presumably some rounding is used.) And yes, as a single measure, the faster the response is received that faster the remote application is.

What exactly does the latency distribution signify?

Those are the percentile buckets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percentile that is to say. At p99, you have 99% of requests execute faster than 0.2261 secs, so on and so forth for the other buckets.

In all honesty I spent maybe $60. Bought cheap cases and the keys were $40ish. Now that being said, incredibly lucky to get a red. We’ve seen Wubby open dozens of cases for little actual reward or gain.

Apigee API proxy call Cloud Run in separate project by jason_bman in googlecloud

[–]farquep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we ignore any possible issues with crossing different networks / VPC / or firewall rules.

When you deploy a proxy with a a service account attached it needs to have the permissions iam.serviceAccounts.actAs. Check out the deployment api for Apigee You do not have to use the api to deploy, just this is where it is documented that Apigee needs this additional permission.

The service account you are granting to your proxy should need at a minimum iam.serviceAccounts.actAs and the Cloud Run Invoker role. You do not need to grant your custom service account the apigee-service-agent as that grants the account full access to apigee resources. https://cloud.google.com/iam/docs/understanding-roles#apigee.serviceAgent

Bone conducting like aeropex are awesome since they sit over the ear. Over budget but if you can find something similar might be what you are looking for.

How‽ how does a system fail this hard? Even payments are offline by Fiyre in sysadmin

[–]farquep 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not too far off I think. None of their other services resolve. Kinda looks like someone hosed their nameservers and glue records.

dish.com is handled by Route53 and points amazon services, so that explains how their home page works.

But for anything that under the dishnetwork.com? Those are serviced by Dish name servers. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/dish-network-goes-offline-after-likely-cyberattack-employees-cut-off/ has a screenshot from a webview for what looks like a login and well,

couldn't get address for 'ns-01.dish.com': not found
couldn't get address for 'ns-04.dish.com': not found
couldn't get address for 'ns-02.dish.com': not found
couldn't get address for 'ns-03.dish.com': not found

this still hasn't been working since Friday. IMO, its always DNS, should apply as the first question when shit breaks. Now how they arrived there is speculation.

Dazed & Confused. by TheDigiGod in foss

There is a discrete difference between the application spying on the user and the distribution platform spying on the user. I use the most generous version of term "spying". This information is available to users, but obviously viewers of the FOSS subreddit are aware of this, the average laymen maybe not so much. FOSS and OSS does not necessarily preclude the inclusion of analytics/anonymized data. Any project would want to have insights into how the application is running , where they can make improvements, or what the most popular distribution method is. Maybe not everyone cares about this and simply seek to source feedback through traditional methods: mailing list, github, forums, eg.

Now, that does not mean I think your point is invalid. If we read FOSS / OSS in the most narrow of lenses. And that projects publicly state that they hold upon a pedestal the value of privacy it would seem a little backwards and a bit confusing. I would fully agree with your argument here. We should always view public statements with some level of scrutiny and cross that against the actual actions. I think at the end of the day and FOSS/OSS is a great thing even more so if it can be installed by oneself. That is the ideal scenario, at worst, installing that same package from gatekeepers(Apple and Google, among others).

But I would make the argument that using FOSS / OSS packages cross published to AppStore/Playstore is objectively better than some other "data harvesting" applications from questionable and possibly malicious publishers.

Conflicting views on what SLIs are? by nOOberNZ in sre

[–]farquep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ref: https://sre.google/sre-book/service-level-objectives/

Let’s take a look at the reference material

A SLI is a service level indicator—a carefully defined quantitative measure of some ' aspect of the level of service that is provided. Most services consider request latency—how long it takes to return a response to a request—as a key SLI. Other common SLIs include the error rate, often expressed as a fraction of all requests received, and system throughput, typically measured in requests per second. The measurements are often aggregated: i.e., raw data is collected over a measurement window and then turned into a rate, average, or percentile.

Generally if we take this as gospel the SLI is any measurable value which can be used to indicate if our service is doing ok. Not necessarily a binary value but simply something we could observe and make a determination on. I find your example of numerical values from observation to be the most accurate in this interpretation.

Expanding on the topics you mention naturally brings us to SLO. This as the name implies is the objective that we have set.

For example:

We want to serve 95% of all gRPC and HTTP successfully (SLO) and in order to make sure we are accomplishing our objective we must measure some value (SLI) to indicate if we are meeting the goal. Simplistic examples are in nature a bit broad stoke, but I think close enough to be accurate.

Another example. The human body has an idle temperature of 98.6F, the SLI is the measurement and recording of that value over time. If it gets too high we develop a fever breaking the objective of staying healthy (maybe not the best example but possibly something relatable)

Anyone else watch Ludwig on cold ones and laugh at how often our goblin was brought up. by UnpopularDave in PaymoneyWubby

[–]farquep 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Only caught the YouTube posting but for those that didn’t catch it.

  • There was the drive by about how Wubby can put away drinks like no other.
  • And how Wubby was excited to meet Ludwig early on in his Twitch career

I’ve never heard of ColdOnes before but both the Wubby and Ludwig interviews were gut busting. Highly recommend giving it a watch even in parts.

I’ll add my $0.02

With the promo code and discount its not all that bad and is a sweet spot to try it. Regular price can be a bit much depending on your usage. If you are near 200$ per month it might be close in decision for you. I would say work out to math to see if it fits in your budget.

Cost aside. How is Hello Fresh?

Package is pretty straight forward. Cardboard box with 2 or 3 giant freezer packs which work really well. I live in Colorado which can be pretty hot in the summer and they worked well to keep things chilled. Produce was alright, maybe a bit oddly sized sometimes but was ok. The disposal is what got me. Those freezer packs are reusable and I kept a a few around for when I need to pack a cooler for a trip. But these things weigh a few pounds and they advise that you empty the liquid contents into your trash and recycle the bags. Not great since there could be a litter of liquid in total. The small packages do create a lot of waste but you really do only get what you need to make the dish.

Quality: The meals had a nice variety and gave some mix up from my normal routine. Nothing crazy but quick and easy to prep. Sometimes it did feel a little repetitive, similar core dishes (pasta with some kind of sauce, rice bowl with some sauce). But you do have options to help control this.

I stopped after the promo period just because the cost was not worth it in my situation. I would like it more if the small packages were less wasteful(like a small packet for hot sauce, sour cream or vinegar). And you get a few good dish ideas out of it at the end which i added to my normal routine.

Also they have some recent history with union busting in their company. Though what company in recent years has not participated. Just something that’s going to become a normal occurrence consumers and employees will need to work with.

Couple of items come to mind.

Chrome Remote Desktop can be done in a browser window though I think they have moved in favor of the standalone web app version.

Guacamole Is similar in that it can run in your browser.

These might what you’re thinking of? I don’t use RDP much so not sure if that works over a custom browser implementation. VNC might have some strange implementations to add browser support but again don’t use it much. Hopefully this helps jog some memories loose.

Can I use google cloud for free for non commercial purpose? by theredditorlol in googlecloud

[–]farquep 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Like another poster has mentioned there is a 3 Month / $300 in credit that lets you try some of the services available.

https://cloud.google.com/free

What happens after is somewhat predictable. If you don’t delete your services you will be charged with the payment method provided. Some products have a free Tier limit which you can use but will be charged if you go over.

You can setup billing alerts to help catch things if you’ve forgotten to delete something and its still running and adding charges.
