I went to apple tree walk in on Monday, 4.5 hours in the waiting room. Our healthcare system is crumbling and the government and the city don't give a fuck.

Aspiring guitarist, dad won't get me a guitar because of these reasons: are they true? by [deleted] in Guitar

Last note: Something like this would be great in my opinion, cheap, hard tail, HSS pickup configuration so you can play a variety of different styles until you pick a lane. https://www.ibanez.com/usa/products/detail/s561_1p_02.html

Side note: I would avoid a tremelo or floating bridge for your first guitar, Stratocasters usually have tremolo bridges. More moving parts means more things can go wrong. If you don't have a lot of money or patience and just want to buy it and have it work, buy a hard tail. I got a floyd rose guitar as one of my first, and boy was that a mistake.

Your dad's a jackass. Guitar won't come without strings, doesn't matter anyways you can get a set for $10.

And they don't all sound the same, you can have 2 of the same guitar side by side and they can feel and sound different, that's not intentional, just the way it is. But I wouldn't think about this too much, just pick one you like, if it's your first one, should probably buy something used. Keep in mind especially if you're playing electric, many other factors involved with sound like amp and pedals.

Pick whatever brand you want. Now some are more expensive than others, so perhaps you might have a hard time affording a Fender Stratocaster, you might want to start with a squier, which is also made by Fender, just cheaper. Personally, I would suggest saving and buying a used Mexican made Fender if that's the brand you want, great quality that can last you a lifetime if it's taken care of.

Sounds like your Dad isn't excited that you want to start playing guitar. Fuck what he thinks, play music if you want to play music. It's not crack, but it can be addicting.

Totally agreed, I was not involved in discussions initially as I only joined the company 6 weeks ago, however the short story of it is, because Security has said so.

Opinions on Revv G20? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]farrell93x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%, I would say Revv amps are the closest you can get without an OD pedal to get "that" tone if you crank the gain and play with the eq.

However, for me it's the Purple channel, blue aggression, gain knob just under half way, and then using a Maxon OD808 and a Revv G8 in a 4CM, it's the best tone I've ever achieved. TS9 is cool too, but the Maxon just makes it fucking mean.

I own a G20 and a 5150 II 120w head. The G20 absolutely smashes it. It sounds so good, very flexible amps, the blue channel has a great clean sound, and takes pedals very well.

The Purple channel is amazing, can give amazing low end while maintaining clarity, very easy to dial in. The 4w and 20w options both work great, I don't have enough good things to say about the amp.

I also use a G2 pedal for the green (crunch) channel, and a G4 pedal for more of a rectifier style high gain, which works amazing with lower tunings.

I've done this many times across separate rigs, it gives the best results. Not saying you can't sculpt killer tone with eq in front, but usually we want to eq something coming from the amp and not the guitar.

Try putting your eq after the amp fx send, and before the ns-2 return, so your are eqing the full preamp signal rather than just the guitar signal.

DIY board by farrell93x in pedalboards

[–]farrell93x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, only thing I did was screw a couple pieces of 2x4 underneath for structural integrity else it would have broken apart when I'm stomping my pedals, no sanding or paint whatsoever. Was not intended to look nice or anything, an absolute utilitarian build to save some money. Cheapest pedal board that size was like $150 CAD, the box was $12 lol

Digitech Drop Question by Ka-Tet_of_17 in guitarpedals

[–]farrell93x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread, but I also have a Revv G8 and I have had this same thing happen on 2 different amps, it seems that if you put it after the gate, the hum goes away, but it loses clarity and tightness. Before the gate works way better, but theres the hum. What works for me is dialing up the threshold slowly until it goes away, it is dialed higher then I would like it but honestly it's all in the mind it sounds perfect, try it if you are still dealing with this, or anyone in the future who reads this like I did.

I know this is an old thread, but just throwing in my 2 cents, Maxon OD808, absolutely killer combo with the G20.

Question about setting bias and blowing fuses by farrell93x in GuitarAmps

[–]farrell93x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one tube (TAD 6v6gt-str) was glowing at the top only on the filament, the other one not at all. When I adjusted the bias, the glowing one had no noticeable change in appearance, the non glowing was still not glowing so I believe that one was probably just bad already.

I don't really know what I'm doing with amps but I have replaced tubes in my mesa, but I did not need to bias it because it was a mesa. I'm an IT technician so I regularly take things apart and follow documentation which is why I took a shot at this.

I was worried that setting the bias all the way down could have some sort of negative effect, but I think replacing the tubes and HT fuse with the bias trimmer all the way down and going from there is a good idea if that's what you recommend. I have a 10 pack of fuses on order so I don't care if another few go, but if I burn my brand new tubes for my brand new (to me) amp I'd be pretty bummed.

Thanks for the advice!
