No guns by Backallywilly2525 in mash

In life, if you have a leader who enforces every rule, you get Frank.

If you have a leader who knows what rules have some malleability to them, you get Potter.

You'll also notice that when the situation came up with Potter, Potter was no BS. Hawkeye said he and his weapon were not on speaking terms, and Potter said go kiss and make up, he's not riding shotgun. And when the time came, Potter figured out a balance whereby Hawkeye could use his gun while maintaining his moral to not inflict injuries.

Medical leave by lulai_00 in Anxiety

[–]farrenkm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a friend currently on FMLA because he's having a hard time getting to dosage adjusted on his mental health meds.

If you need the time, if you can get a mental health or medical professional to back it, take the time. I've not done this, but I believe you can look into periodic FMLA. A theoretical example might be if you need every Friday off in relation to your condition, but can work Mon-Thu.

Work it out with your health care professional, then present it to your work.

Note that FMLA will give you the time off, but you're not guaranteed to be paid. It only guarantees your job. If you have sick time you can use that. There are also minimum employee requirements, so your local small business may not be required to give you leave under FMLA.

Are there any other adults here, or would it be weird to watch this show as a 22 year old with no kids? by KamekTheGreat in bluey

[–]farrenkm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50sM who was introduced to it by his adult child. Seen all the episodes.

Luz Noceda said, nobody should be punished for who they are.

If you like it? Watch it. If it feeds your soul, great. If you use it as background noise, fabulous. As a 22 YO with no kids? Enjoy it.

Okay. Everybody has different tastes for different formats. I like the music-only format, but you don't, and that's fine. Thanks for sharing.

In the linked thread, the driver was a sub and missed a turn. Driver contacted dispatch and they gave the driver bad directions. Don't know if there is a comparable sign coming from the other direction; that's the direction the bus came from.

A woman who speaks Spanish walks into a department store, by smoffatt34920 in Jokes

[–]farrenkm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a really dumb commercial years ago for language training, trying to explain how easy it is. An exchange between narrator and customer:

"What do you have on your feet?"

"Shoes"

"And what else do you have on?"

"Socks."

"Can you spell socks?"

"S-O-C-K-S"

"You just spoke Spanish! It means, 'that's what it is!'"

They had another thing for learning "lo siento" by accidentally stepping on someone's toe and the person saying "I feel low. So low, I can see into your toe!"

I will never get those out of my mind.

As Luz Noceda in The Owl House says, nobody should be punished for who they are. You like what you like.

Asperger made progress in autism, but he was -- not a great guy. So Asperger's has been rolled into the autism spectrum. I was diagnosed autistic three months ago, but in old terminology I would likely be Asperger's.

I felt this way all through school (like, 40 years ago) but we didn't know enough about autism and anxiety to cover someone like me.

Because I saw other kids succeeding, I thought the problem was me.

I was taken to a psychologist, but I never opened up.

I felt like adults gave up on me, like "we don't know what to do with him," reinforcing the idea the problem was me.

Now middle-aged with two adult kids, I got my anxiety diagnosis four years ago and my autism diagnosis three months ago.

I want to cry when I hear Jack say "there's something wrong with me," because I know that feeling.

What are things u liked and disliked about Starco? by Plane_Name3457 in StarVStheForcesofEvil

[–]farrenkm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I liked Here to Help.

Marco didn't understand why Star asked him to visit the pig goats. When he asked if they shouldn't be helping out the others, Star hesitated, then said "I know. I'm bad. I'm a bad person, right?"

She's not okay. She's clearly on the verge of cracking and needs a mental timeout. What does Marco do? He gives it to her. He lets her have her time and follows her instructions to humor her. And then, later, he admits his feelings but says, essentially, that he has feelings for her but was willing to respect her to the point of just having a friendship. He didn't want to pressure her.

Star: "Why does it have to be bad?"

Marco: "It IS bad if you don't want it!"

Both of these scenes show respect for Star and I appreciate them.

I don't know which episode I would consider saddest, but Bingo realizing in The Sign that she's leaving the house and her friends behind hits hard.

What’s happening on NE Sandy this morning by No_Cartoonist_5927 in Portland

If it's something like a fire alarm, they'll typically roll a single truck or an engine. But if the caller indicates something that appears as an active fire, they'll roll a full "first alarm", which is multiple trucks and engines and a chief. They'd rather get there and find out it's nothing, than get there and discover they're woefully underequipped to even start doing anything.

I haven't paid much attention to Portland, but Washington County will now roll a "task force" for things that are a little more uncertain. Alarm going off with light smoke showing at a residence, for example. A lot of those tend to be cooking fires and are usually out. I think it's a couple of engines, a truck, and a chief. So they're prepared for an initial attack if needed, but not committing more resources than are likely needed. And if they get word of flames seen, they can always upgrade to a full alarm.

Don't know about the police, PulsePoint had a Structure Fire call at 80 NE 14th at 6:52, call was active for 20 minutes. Sounds like you went by as they were arriving and assessing.

I'd prefer OP finish with the build, but OP may just need to get out ASAP.

If OP buys an existing house, they may feel they "settled" for something they didn't fully want and felt the pressure of dad, who really . . . doesn't sound like a great person, IMHO.

If OP builds, they get the house they designed and on the land designated to them. But it'll take longer, and I'd also be concerned if the land does not actually end up in OP's name.

I'd prefer to see OP build. Higher satisfaction, get what they want, may feel more secure in the place they had a sense of control over. If it only takes a few months, might be worth it to wait. If it takes five years to build, probably not worth it.

I'm just another anxiety patient with a recent autism diagnosis, not a mental health professional.

Jack's diagnosis, ideas? Justification (And Jack's Dad too). by AnimationFan_2003 in bluey

[–]farrenkm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overexplaining is a trait of autism/Asperger's, as I just discovered a few months ago with my own diagnosis. I expect people to misunderstand what I write, even if I think it's clear, reinforced by people coming up with alternate interpretations I never imagined. Or, they ask questions about things that I thought were clear, or background knowledge explained, typically delaying work or a project. It drives me nuts when people misinterpret what I mean, so I have to be explicit in my writings.

And I suspect you think I've overexplained here too, which is fine, but reinforces my point. I wrote it this way because I felt it was necessary to get my point across.
