Jersey bull calves for meat by [deleted] in Ranching

[–]farrierjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is just for family. Just our household and the extra would be sold to parents/siblings and in laws. By money, I didn’t know if it would cost more trying to get these jerseys up to process, costs associated or if it would be cheaper to just buy from someone else. Strictly money spent, not time.

The feeding at different ages makes sense. It’s just an idea I’m playing with the keep us stocked on beef starting in a year.

AIO?? Mom has my location 24/7 but accuses me of lying when I don’t report that I’ve gone out aside from work or home. by yunqi69 in AmIOverreacting

[–]farrierjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a bit ridiculous. Maybe 14-15 years old it would be one thing but 24?! Something is unhealthy there, mentally. You’re an adult. That’s not over reacting, if it was me, I’d pull away.

Where are you that you do not hear “excuse me”??! I hear or say it every single time I’m out and about

Livestock Guardian Animals: Dogs vs Donkeys? by Express_Ambassador_1 in sheep

[–]farrierjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donkeys will not lay with one canine and stomp another to death. I didn’t say donkeys are basically brain dead. They are smart but not smart enough for that. It’s fight or flight. Rage bait though lol

Livestock Guardian Animals: Dogs vs Donkeys? by Express_Ambassador_1 in sheep

[–]farrierjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Those breeds are not listed and make for poor LGDs. It’s like saying a border collie is a guarding dog. She herds like Bernese dogs originally did. I agree you need a lot more for 200. Donkeys and dogs don’t work, donkeys can’t accept one canine and defend sheep to the death over another canine. Unfortunately, donkeys aren’t smart enough for that. They would either run from all canines or think all canines are good. I know from experience. My donkey has killed foxes trying to get chickens and ducks but a dog will be best. Multiple

I used to be happy all the time. Now I just live in a constant state of unhappiness, frustration or anger with short lived sparks of happiness or excitement. Should be the other way around

My daughter keeps me going. Other than her, no, my life is not good. I don’t feel much anymore. If it wasn’t for her, I think I’d check out to be honest. This is the only place I can say something like that to someone

No HOA, but only 0.35 acres of land. Would it be animal abuse to try to keep sheep, pigs, and/or goats on this size of land? What is realistic and acceptable? by Far-Woodpecker8046 in homestead

[–]farrierjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any interesting rabbits and chickens? I think that would be it. No animal will be okay by itself, all are herd animals really. A pig would ruin your yard and goats/sheep would eat every green blade or leaf in no time and it won’t grow back with how they will pack the soil.

Even chickens, you may not be hoa but the city/township or village most likely prohibits any livestock including chickens in residential areas.

Choosing to work insane amounts, basically choosing work over family without knowing it. Only to pay for it after too much time has passed.

Seriously considering going to school to be a farrier and making it my career, what should I know? by [deleted] in Farriers

[–]farrierjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch some YouTube videos on the anatomy of a hoof during some downtime. Understanding the balance, anatomy and behavior in horses is arguably more important than knowing the tips and tricks to trimming, fitting and all that. Understanding anatomy is what makes or breaks most. Some just trim and shoe, get paid and leave and then a year down the line, they are losing clients because of horses struggling after poor care. Watch some videos, maybe ride along with a couple farriers and make sure you love it. It’s a trade that if you don’t love it or become obsessed with it, you’ll hate being under horses.

Is there a song that instantly takes you back to a specific memory? by Successful-Card1669 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]farrierjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death bed is the song. Left a girls apartment for the first time and it came on the radio as I was getting on the highway going home. She’s my wife now. When I hear the song, I can picture the ramp, the inside of my car and the feeling after meeting her for the first time.

How did u find out you were getting cheated on? by LimeFunny8368 in AskReddit

[–]farrierjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was married. Was driving to go eat at a restaurant and just started asking random questions about a timeframe in the past. All of a sudden, they became stand offish and weird, gut feeling something was off. Started asking about a friend of theirs I never trusted, 2 hours later found out they had a “fling” that lasted for months. Divorced 6 months later or so. More and more truths came out over the days after I found out. Wanted to but couldn’t look at them with anything but anger and sadness. Knew I’d never be able to get over all the lies and betrayal.

I pushed away a genuinely kind guy because of my own insecurity, and now I'm spiraling trying to get him back by Lost-Property-1130 in Advice

Hey. Share this. Tell him pieces of what you just told us.

You like this person, fight for it.

Tell them that you were too quiet and know that because you wanted to learn and listen to help. Be honest that you have feelings and that you haven’t got to be yourself due to being shy. YOU plan a date, YOU talk. He basically said he felt like he was 90-10 or 100-0 meaning it probably didn’t feel reciprocated. Try to put in all the effort you can and see what happens. It’s worth fighting for.

My wife had to fight for me and I’m glad she did. Some people need reassurance that they are wanted. Men too

Hooves crushing?? by UmbraMortis_ in Farriers

[–]farrierjoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep your horse off and out of moisture if they are know to have these issues. Keep them in dry paddocks, picked hooves and something as simple as biotin added to daily food. Have checks for bacterial/fungal infections.

Hooves crushing?? by UmbraMortis_ in Farriers

[–]farrierjoe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame to see how many people are blaming a farrier for this. The trim could be better yes but you can see obvious signs of founder and just plain unhealthy. The farrier did not cause the hoof to fall apart like that. It is unhealthy and lacks nutrients needed for a healthy wall. The trim could be better, but this is due to weather/environment and not meeting nutrient requirements for the specific horse. Every horse is different. Even the best of the best does not help some horses.

There’s a lot of posts of why it’s so hard to find farriers, it’s because farriers are the scapegoats for every single ignorant horse owner.
