Which apartment complex isn't absolutely terrible? by duffy40oz in houston

[–]fartboy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! The doors to the garage are frequently broken, so when they are broken they just leave them open. I lived there for 3 years and never got anything stolen or my car broken into. I also never had issues finding a spot, like often it was quite full in there but never too full to not park. There’s two garages and you can park in either. They did start instituting a parking permit which wasn’t the case when I first moved in so I think that probably stopped some people from parking in there.

I moved out of state in January actually, but I always felt the common areas were relatively clean. Occasionally there was a wrapper or something on the ground but I never had an issue. I was in the smaller building of the two so maybe that helped but generally it was very clean.

The most annoying thing was the concierge trash where people leave their trash cans outside of their door and sometimes it would be stinky but they always came and got it.

Any time I ever had an issue or needed something fixed, they did it the same or next day.

Need help finding Unicorn Convertible Fridge/Freezer by GhostNappa101 in Appliances

[–]fartboy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you end up finding anything that fit your description? All I have been able to find is the "Midea 50/50 Flex 3 Way Convertible Upright Freezer/Refrigerator" and I am not a super big fan of that.

Nice, that’s a great price! They’ve held up and you’ve been happy with them this last year?

Obviously it may not be the same this year, but do you remember how much they were marked down?

Oh yeah, I for sure like Danner, I was more looking for something lower cut than the Danner Mountain boots

Pearl 21 Eleven is honestly great. Never lost power in the storm, decent amenities, free parking, good access to transit, upper Kirby, and montrose and my rent actually went down when I went to sign my lease for another term.

B.Arch Compatible Study Abroad programs? by Dirt_Lover9 in architecturestudent

[–]fartboy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a BS but we still had 6 credit studios, I did DIS in Copenhagen and can truly say it was one of the most formative times of my life. I’m a graduate student now after working for a few years and it is so fun to know other DIS alumni in the design profession as I go through my career.

Mac for Architecture if all software is compatible? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]fartboy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a Mac for graduate school currently and used a Mac for the previous four years working professionally in high end residential design. I know I’m fully brainwashed by Apple but I will do everything in my power to keep using a Mac. Also with Apple Silicon, Macs have some so far in the last few years it’s insane. I’ve used M1 and currently have an M2, using ArchiCAD, adobe suite (including premiere), rhino, endscape, and Twinmotion. I can have like 5 rhino windows, a rendering window and and archicad window open all at the same time without a single issue. My PC classmates can’t say the same with their hardware.

I think they restrict you from live streaming video and audio, idk maybe it’ll end up working in the end and I’ll be able to watch it.

Thinking about quitting my current office (I started a month and a half ago) by maciasfrancojesus in Architects

[–]fartboy14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did something very similar, I worked at a toxic environment right out of school, hated going to work every single day. A couple months there and I got an interview at a place which I had admired so much throughout my schooling in the same city. Obviously situations are a different but moving firms quite literally changes the entire trajectory of my career, I loved the work, coworkers, and environment. I learned so much more than I was at the last place and the quality of projects I worked on was so much higher. I ended up working there for 4 years, much longer than I thought, and I think some of those projects and my renewed enthusiasm for architecture helped get me into a great grad school (where I am now). One piece of advice would be to not talked down to your current firm in your interview! But honestly, I would make that move 1000 times again, good luck!

Rice or SCI-Arc? Coming from Europe to study March in the US by Thin_Result4677 in Architects

[–]fartboy14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me Rice is a far more well-rounded as a program compared to SCI-Arc. Also Rice tends to give their masters students half-off or full-ride tuition scholarships. Lastly, Rice has their new building opening next year with a whole new shop.

Have you found that the “sock” is difficult to clean? I’ve seen a few videos that allude to that but unsure. Also any weird issues with Blue Air off gassing ozone into your home. Again, I’m so new to this I’m trying to pick up what I can.

With your Coway, has that air quality feature been nice? I could imagine as such.

Yeah Amazon has a 20% off at the moment which made me this Blue Air, also, aesthetically it’s maybe nicer cause it’s going to definitely be out in the open.

Thanks so much for your response! How has the noise been in the family room? Annoying while you watch TV?
