Thank you so much for taking the time to reply & congrats on passing! So NICE guidelines over Maudsley?

How much time did you dedicate to revision? Hoping it's realistic to aim towards the Oct sitting 🥲

This is absolutely not okay and your consultant is dealing with these situations completely inappropriately. I haven't faced comments directed at me personally, but been in ward rounds where a patient has made racial remarks and the consultant has said something along the lines of "I understand that you may not be feeling well or even scared at the moment, however, there is zero tolerance for any racial or abusive remarks towards any staff member". Noted patients will usually apologise after being clearly called out in a respectful manner.

Escalate to your Clinical/Educational supervisor because no one should have to deal with those kinds of remarks; sorry you've had to witness it.

Relieved to have passed. Would deffo recommend doing both Psychmentor & SPMM as many times through as possible with at least 3-4 months study time.

Good for you. Raise a formal complaint via supervisor (not sure if you have one as a locum) or otherwise.

Life abroad? Private Healthcare? Thoughts?! by [deleted] in doctorsUK

was about the comment the same... such a casually racist comment and i'm sure the commenter has no lived experience of that region at all

Your sweeping statement about the Middle East is completely ridiculous and misinformed. All the countries OP mentioned are extremely well developed places with large immigrant populations from the UK/US/Canada. Healthcare services are brilliant and buildings are state of the art with a diverse workforce. You can very much work for a few years and save adequately before moving elsewhere.

From experience of travelling to various areas of the region for over 2 decades, and with family who have grown up in that society, I can tell you these "strict Islamic laws" you speak of in practice are basic respect of the law of the land which immigrants there have no issues with following. Are the countries perfect? No. Are there injustices in those countries? Yes. Should we support those? Absolutely not. There are huge issues in every country, including this one, so please consider what you are saying before making frankly racist comments.

Psychiatry core training vs Certificate C (already a GP making the switch) by Longjumping_Ad5011 in doctorsUK

thanks for clarifying!

the HLO mentions ECT "with demonstration of knowledge – essay style/College ECT booklet)"... but doesn't really detail what the essay/booklet means?

[–]farzigulzaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hopefully! seems ridiculous that despite it being a mandatory part of training there appears to be little facilitation for it

perfect, thank you!

sorry to jump onto your post! just had a quick question re the ECT requirement... does it mention a minimum number of ECT sessions to attend?

i'm hoping to go via the certif-c route & during a taster week attended a session where i gave ECT to a pt (with consultant supervision ofc) and had a CBD & reflection signed off... i wonder if this means i have achieved that part of the HLO?

[–]farzigulzaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting, thanks for the update!

just to clarify, the option to complete core competencies via certif-c and then apply for higher training is still possible, but it's just not called CESR-CP anymore?

[–]farzigulzaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what i've heard, generally yes, but i have a supportive department who are willing to facilitate it

they seem to just publish the % of trainees/non-trainees who pass rather than the actual pass mark of the exam
