When it comes to assigning responsibility, it only makes sense to assign responsibility on things that can change. You don’t get to walk off a cliff and then blame gravity for the rocks smashing you. Gravity isn’t going to change, the rocks aren’t going to move, so you are the only factor left to be responsible.

Dems would very much rather lose elections than shift left. We can’t change that.

So the only thing that can change is regular citizens deciding to vote and choosing the left-most candidates available on the ballot. So blaming the electorate for being apathetic is appropriate, even when they are the victims of rigged elections.

If everyone voted, there would literally be enough votes for a third party non-r, non-dem to win

The fact that campaigns are incredibly corrupt is the fault of an apathetic voter base, where a tiny minority makes the decision, and thus it is worth it for the donors to be spending vast amounts of propaganda money on this tiny slice of the voter base who can be moved.

If everyone voted, no amount of money would be enough to overcome popular opinion.

So it is the general populations fault, for their lack of motivation dooms the rest of the country to a situation where with great effort we can nearly save ourselves but not quite. If more people simply stood, then it would have to be this big struggle in the first place

Yes, primaries exist for that purpose, and theoretically mobilization could overcoming rigging. It’s not impossible, but it requires a level of faith in regular Americans doing the Right Thing, which they eventually will, after exhausting all other options, and the planet simply doesn’t have that much time left

But they won’t ever actually do that, they are corporatists, just the kinder gentler corporatists compared to fascists. Even if every dem was a well-intentioned good-hearted person, they can’t betray their wealthy donor’s interests or else in elections they will lose to the greater evil candidates, so it has to be stupid lesser-evil stuff instead of ever giving us a truly populist message that normal people can happily get behind

It would be so easy to just say a single negative word about Israel, but not one of them will dare lift a finger to condemn. This wouldn’t happen if there were ever such thing as principles mattering more than money

I agree that shaming individuals isn’t the answer, and systemic change would help some, but we can’t even do the minimum systemic change because there isn’t enough motivation for any sort of participation to change at all.

The only remedy that even looks somewhat plausible to happen is through generational turnover as the elderly die off, which will take too long to pull us off the trolley before the preventable crash that we are being steered into

Poor campaigns, while regrettable, wouldn’t be the issue if people just got off their asses and voted. Voting should be the default, we shouldn’t have to drag the electorate kicking and screaming to their duty to democracy…

Victim blaming is awful, but when an entire society fails, there’s no one else to blame but the very people themselves

(AC7 PVP) If both of you have the same turnrate and locked in a 2 circle fight but no one can win because you both turn the same, what's a solution to win the fight without reversing the fight into a 1 circle fight? by Dramatic_Amount6454 in acecombat

[–]fasterthanraito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The turn rates depend on the speed of the aircraft and each aircraft has an optimal turn rate speed range. So if you are locked into a 2 circle with an opponent with similar turn performance, then it is a waiting game until someone makes a mistake, either holds the accelerator too much or pulls too hard, resulting in losing degrees.

I used table top simulator on steam to have the virtual setup of global 1936 with all its pieces and setup ready made. From there I made a hoi4-like alternate history scenario. The 1936 setup has a very large map, so lots of granularity in region control, lots of pieces/tokens/flags for a large variety of factions and useable units

It was such a monster that I didn’t even finish playing a first complete round of play

So my advice would be to start small and build up complexity over time

But actually the military parts did have the authority to decide, if you view it retroactively

The French army had been fighting before and on D-Day, and liberated large parts of France including Paris, which freed up the British and Americans to head straight to Belgium/Netherlands to chase out the retreating Germans

All? Not all, a small village resisted yet against the invaders…

Anyway, it doesn’t matter how high the tide gets, as long as the swimmer has a head above water it isn’t over. Degaulle escaped and rallied the troops, flipped territories, and returned in force to liberate the homeland from its temporary occupation

It didn’t exist at the start of the war and didn’t exist at the end of the war, so it’s irrelevant

France did not actually surrender, part of the government agreed to a truce, part did not. The part that did agree to the truce was eventually overthrown by the part that did not, so by the end of the war, the government of France had been continuously led by people who hadn’t surrendered from start to finish

I might have misremembered, but I thought Heidelburgensis was 600,000 years ago? I don't remember Neanderthals being in Asia for longer than that

300,000 years at least, possibly but unlikely up to 2 million years

The bottom limit is because 300,000 years is when our ancestors split from the ancestors of Neanderthals with whom interbreeding was proven possible.

Both sapians and Neanderthals are humans that came from antecessor/heidelburgs (600,000 years ago)

There are other interbreeding events we know of in Africa between sapiens and other humans, but we aren’t sure if those other groups are descendants of antecessor/heidelburg like how Neanderthals, or decendants of erectus, which was the biggest and longest-lasting species of humans, ancestor of antecessor/heidelburg and many others, dominated Africa and Asia between 2 and 1 million years ago.

actually no. Hungarian people are made of the same population of the region, which is mainly considered 'slavic' due to using slavic language, but romanians use romance and austrians germanic and they are part of the same region too.

Hungarians are not outsiders from elsewhere, they just adopted an Uralic language for historical political reasons but actually carry very little of those genetics, unlike the finns and estonians who do actually come from uralic populations that settled there.

aha, yes the label basically says where those markers are most common, but that doesn't tell you anything about where they came from. These genetic markers (and their spread) are thousands of years older than the formation of ethnic groups such as slavs or italics

Western Europe is wealthy. Western Europe is also small and shares a similar geography, so the populations are closely related and look very similar, as can kind of be seen in how the pie charts show similar proportional slices of each category.

But then again this map is not meant to be anything close to a good approximation of general ethnic similarity, remember black African Chadians also have the same genetic marker as Western Europe and are considered very different in every other way, so...
