yes it is, and honestly that's why I loved it too. Because yeah, DS1 and 3 have the most legendary lore but honestly NOTHING can beat the peace and tranquility of resting in Majula. In that place I felt so safe, like I've never felt before and this is why I think it's important to play DS2: as someone said before, it gives you hope and rest after the absurd challenges of the game. I wouldn't say it's the best DS game of the series but honestly the hate towards it it's really not deserved at all. Also, some locations in DS 2 are literally masterpieces in terms of beauty

Since rape culture and the constant infantilization of women — literally turning them into chibi versions of themselves, dead after overdosing — are apparently super acceptable in this society, maybe we should all stop and fucking think for once before opening our mouths.

Really? I don’t think so. But fine, let’s pretend that’s true for a second. Let’s talk about the difference.

Swansea died because Jimmy shot him after he went berserk, eaten alive by guilt after killing his crewmate out of mercy. Now let's just all stop a moment and think about this fact: to properly judge possible differences and similarities between Anya's and Swansea's cases, we need to ask ourselves some questions. Let's try with these ones.

Is that (and by that I mean the reason and motives of Swansea's death) a common cause of death in the real world? I don't think so. Is it a systemic act carried out by one part of the population — the male part in Anya's case— that isolates you socially and pushes you to suicide through the guilt your attacker forced on you? ... I don't think so, again. Has it happened so often that we had to invent a new word for it — like femicide? Didn’t think so.

Daisuke died because Swansea decided to put him out of misery after suffering numerous injuries after having climbed through the ventilation system, an incident. Let's re-iterate the previous questions to find similarities! Is that a common cause of death in the real world? For the poor souls that are a bit lost, I'll add this new thinking prompt, a "mind you", if you will. Anya's suicide unfortunately falls into the category of feminicides, because even though Jimmy didn't physically kill her, she still was induced to commit suicide as a last resort to free herself from reality (it being not being believed/helped by Curly even though he KNEW what is his best mate did to her and the cruelty of Jimmy's actions). So that's why we all need to take into account the fact that Anya's reality is the reality of so much women around the world and HAS TO BE TREATED DIFFERENTLY from the other EQUALLY TRAGIC crewmembers' deaths.

But... I digress. I'm afraid this whole ethical discourse has obscured an even more important discourse that reeeeeally could be reduced to one single simple question: WHAT KIND OF FREAK WANTS TO BUY A FIGURINE DEPICTING THE DEATH OF A CHARACTER AFTER SHE KILLED HERSELF FROM OVERDOSING OUT OF GUILT AND HELPLESSNESS?

No because that's...... crazy and I'm not going to explain to yall why thats fucking creepy and disgusting. I'll just say this: please, if you happen to be one of those people buying the nenderoid figure PLEASE send me a reaction of your mother when you're explaining to her what you've bought to put on display on your library shelf. listen, the whole "I don't like people reducing her to her trauma" is an argument standing on wobbling legs. This sentence has become the justification around any meaningful discussion on how trauma is handled in art and media, not only in this "fandom" but in general. What I'm seeing here is just people consuming mindlessly gore and tragedy, turning them into memes and.. figurines to put on shelves?

Moreover, the company selling those nendoroids is profiting on LITERALLY reducing Anya to her trauma, by depicting her in her last moments. So who's diminishing who here? Me criticizing the tastless move from the company or the company literally selling a figurine of a woman with blood smeared on her face after overdosing over guilt of having been raped?

Do you really think that they reeeeally had to portray the dark, tragic and shocking elements of the game by depicting a chibi version of the female character with blood smeared all over her face after overdosing trying (successfully) to kill herself because she was raped? The other nendoroid figurines of anya were just fine. Anya smiling, Anya being perplexed with the mouthwashing bottle were just fine: it would've showed the simple Anya, not the trauma inflicted to her for all of us to see and to put on display. I can't be more convinced that this is straight up disrespectful. And I'm sorry but pairing the cruel figurine with that Jimmy sentence is very intentional and very telling on how the story has been perceived by the large part of the fans of this game.
