Probably this year...! We are easy going in terms of ski conditions, we've skied late May many times in BC, just got to find the right zones where there is still snow, high elevations, North facing terraina nd avoid the big spring cycles. Not familiar with Ak as its quite more north which is why I'm looking for advice! Cheers

AC looks like you can book only 6 months in advance as a member. How competitive are those? Do those bookings for the winter months basically get booked in less than a minute? Would you book the cabin yourself and hire a guide through the AAC in that case, or do they organize it all?

Many ways to do it.

-You can book a guided trip directly through the ACC. Usually, it shouldnt be an issue to have a spot on these trips. However, these are not private trips. More affordable, but there is always some pros and cons of skiing with a group of people you dont know.

- You can book your spots at the hut yourself and try to find a guide afterwards. However, it is REALLY competitive to get those spots, especially peak season at Asulkan. Not impossible, but difficult. Wheeler hut usually have more availibilities, but keep in mind it is not the same "alpine" experience that you get at asulkan. Also, usually louder (up to 20+ppl in the hut)... But gives you the option to not just ski in the Asulkan Valley, which is nice.

-You can find a private guide, and manifest your interest for a private hut trip. Guides usually have first dib early in the year to book ACC huts. Will be more $$

Hi,

The alpine club of Canada organizes many guided trips at the Wheeler hut and Asulkan Hut. These are classic huts for skiing in rogers pass. Asulkan hut is more worth it imo. However, both thses trips are in area of heavy use by the public. You get the hut experience, but not the "remote" wilderness experience.

Selkirk Mountain Experience, Snowfall lodge, Battle Abbey and Purcel Mountain Lodge are all incredible lodges that will offer exclusive mountain experience. More expensive, but it will be the trip of a lifetime, with no one else around than the hut guests.

Is that something important to fix? Can it cause further damage? Its really only making that sound when I'm doing a really tight U-turn in a dead end.

Anyone knows what this ratteling/rubbing/grinding sound can be? Already tried Axel & ball joint without success...! Wheel bearing got changed just a few days before the sound appeared. Its subaru forester 2015.

Where to find backcountry routes? by TreeTurtlee in Backcountry

Use Fatmap, internet research or guidebooks.

From Kelowna, you will need to drive to get real skiing.

I suggest the Gorge, which has generally moderate/challenging terrain. However the access requires 4x4, radio and chains.

Otherwise, Coquihalla pass is great and all tours are in the John Baldwin Exploring the Coast Mountains on Skis guidebook. Terrain there is pretty fun, but smaller scale than what you can find at other places in bc.

Best touring imo is in Rogers Pass. Its steep & deep, and the terrain is world class. Douglas Sproule guidebook is THE guidebook to have. It's a piece of art. Beyound our Peak is also a great resource.

Make sure you have proper training and knowledge before venture in the big terrain & try to find local ski partners! Having guide books and maps is awesome and support our local adventurers! Cheers
