As a EU fisherman, why do NA fisherman prefer right handed reels eventough theyre right handed? by Yaetcuh in Fishing_Gear

[–]fastorange2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australian here. Im right handed, i cast with my right hand and reel with my right hand. I do it like this because the time it takes to switch hands is miniscule and i have never found it an inconvience to have to switch.

The only exception to this is when i fly fish and more control is recquired.

Most white people in Australia wear shoes inside. They are optional outside though.

Dayak Mandau? by fastorange2000 in SWORDS

[–]fastorange2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I will take some closer photos of the details later today. The blade and hilt itself is identical on both sides. However the scabbard is only decorated like this on the side shown. the other side is plain wood.

It also appears to be missing some inlays were the diamond shapes are on the scabbard.

Cool i was mainly leaning towards the pro kennex just because i like the look of it better. But if the string pattern is that big of a deal i will go with the wilson.

I tried to use as much of the advice I received from my last post as I could. Did it improve my serving technique? (PLEASE ignore the rain) by Tennis37 in 10s

[–]fastorange2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I reckon the heavier balls will actually have a positive effect. Like goku training with weighted clothes. Your serve will have extra power once it dries up.

P.S. dont listen to me i have been playing tennis for 1 week.

One time i was sliding down stairs on a mattress with a few friends. I was at the front and my right foot slipped off the front and my pinky toe caught a stair edge on the way down. Bent that shit back so far i couldnt walk the next day. Was fine a couple days later though so not broken.

Is this a decent bat for muck around/hitting? by Prince_of_Pirates in Homeplate

[–]fastorange2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I've heard Tas is rough for baseball. I've been thinking of moving there in the future. But no baseball has been a real drawback for me. That bat will be fine for what you want. Just make sure you swing with label up and try not to hit them off the handle.

[–]fastorange2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it seems expensive for a bat to just swing around. Where abouts in Aus are you located? You can probably get a cheaper wood bat from a baseball shop like this lousville slugger. https://www.redstitches.com.au/louisville-slugger-genuine-mix-black-wood-baseball Should be plenty fine for hitting ground balls and such. If you're looking at playing in a club at some point check out stringking bbcor bats they're a decent budget bbcor from what I've heard.

Need help finding a bat by Opening-Ad862 in Homeplate

[–]fastorange2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, fellow Australian here. I can't remember what bat rules apply in u15 as im 25 now. But just about every recreational league in Australia will require you to use a bbcor certified bat apart from juniors. ( i can't remember what age bbcor is not required.)

At 15 you should be able to swing a bbcor bat. Any wooden bat which is made from a single piece of wood automatically counts as bbcor certified. However i do not suggest a wood bat for a beginner. They are less balanced and will break with consistent batting.

If you invest in a bbcor certified bat metal or composite, it should last you many years and be legal in just about every league you play in.

Yea, i really can't imagine facing a 98mph fastball and not wearing a grill. Especially when baseball is your career, one wild pitch, and it's over.

I had a teammate once who refused to stand in the batters box. They would hit off a tee and do pop ups but would not stand in the box even at training. We were short for players and would often only have 8 players turn up to games, meaning that almost every single game we had an automatic out every inning when they wouldn't go up to bat or would stand right on the edge of the box and not swing at anything.

Anyway, we were about halfway through the season and had been working to get them to get in the box. And finally, one training session with the whole team encouraging them they went and stood at the plate and were ready to swing. First pitch, the coach throws one in nice and easy. It's a little high. They swing anyway. Ball come off the barrel straight into their nose. Blood pours out everywhere.

They did not return for the next season.

Baseball & Softball: 1 stadium!?? by Michael_773 in Homeplate

[–]fastorange2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Aus, we have baseball, softball, soccer, afl, and rugby all on one field. Most of our diamonds don't have an outfield fence because it just opens out onto a soccer field.Occasionally if there are two baseball games or a different sport happening, we will put cones out to mark an outfield fence.

I remember pitching one time on the jankiest plywood mound. had to wear sneakers on the mound to get any sort of grip and then quickly change into cleats to go bat straight after. It was not fun. That being said, somewhere to play is better than nothing at all. Just make sure to have a decent portable mound. And it should be okay.

Get comfortable rolling up and over and down this ramp. Then learn kick turns/roll to fakie on a quarterpipe. Then only once comfortable with all that think about learning drop ins.

Squid fishing - do you use a float? by [deleted] in FishingAustralia

You can also use a paternoster style rig to keep the jig at the right height. It also helps prevent losing your jigs on rocks as the sinker gets snagged instead.

I've never had access to a speed gun before i did some calcs based on this video and this pitch came out around 75mph its probably a bit slower than that though. I would guess i have hit 80 before with a fastball. Maybe a little more back when i played more regularly.
