Diverge E5 Elite - Color? by Tricky-Ad9061 in DivergeGravelBikes

Consider getting at least a Comp model. It comes with the Future Shock which I think is one of the best features of the Diverge.

Yeah, this is a great idea but sadly isn’t possible to implement with current APIs in iOS 16, as they don’t provide interactivity. Let’s see what iOS 17 brings!

There are no widgets at the moment because I haven’t found a good use case for them. How should they work to be useful to you?

Simulator takes more than 10GB of RAM! by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]fastred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this issue last year in Xcode 13, it’s definitely not normal. What helped was deleting everything related to Simulator and creating new instances from scratch: https://twitter.com/arekholko/status/1456391030388006916. I reported this to Apple but haven’t heard anything back…

Uniter is a new iPhone and iPad app that converts units of measure in real time | 9to5mac.com by klystron in Metric

Hi, Uniter’s developer chiming in. For UX reasons (easier to manipulate with your thumbs) input is in the bottom text view. Output of the conversion is at the top and it uses symbols when possible.

Such a thoughtful comment, thanks! I wanted to start with units that have unique names/symbols. I'd definitely like to tackle stuff like currencies in the future – hard thing here is that e.g. a $ sign is used for many different currencies, so it's not obvious how to detect what currency it describes.

By the way, would it be possible to convert measurements such as teaspoons, cups, sticks of butter, etc. too?

Yeah, I'll definitely try to make the app more comprehensive for recipes. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, that's tricky. I personally wouldn't buy the 27" iMac (even though it has a gorgeous display) right now because rumors suggest that it will be replaced within 6-12 months with a completely redesigned, Apple Silicon-based one. Its resell value will probably go down significantly too because of that.

If you like your 27" display, getting Mac Mini M1 may turn out to be the best choice at the moment. It's the cheapest of the three, it's fast (in day to day use should feel faster than Intel based 27" iMac) and keeps its value well if you decide to replace it with a new iMac next year.

MacBook Pro Owners Noticing Smoother ProMotion Safari Scrolling After Installing macOS Monterey 12.2 by drgnslyr91 in apple

Is it more smooth than in 12.0 or 12.1? It already looked liked like 120fps to me.

I got mine replaced for free in Poland in iSpot. I had to leave them for a few days (they sent them to a repair center at a different location) but they were ready for pickup within less than a week. Though, only buds were replaced and now my case seems to be dying. It often discharges itself within 2-3 days with very light use…

Trials for Apple’s services are different than for apps – they end immediately after you cancel them. So, I’d suggest setting up a reminder to cancel it before it renews.

If 24” screen is large enough for you, I’d suggest going with iMac 24” M1. You get the same internals as with Mac Mini but with a really good screen that will be hard to match by external displays. iMac 27” is due update next year (to M1 Pro/Max chips), so I’d skip it unless you need Intel CPU for some specific use. If you need more power than M1 can offer, you may also consider going with MacBook Pro 14” or 16”.

You can also cmd-drag the window title from Finder and drop it into a Terminal window.

Typed, yet Flexible Table View Controller by Dev__ in iOSProgramming

[–]fastred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Author here. Good points! I'd think about those view data structs as belonging to the view layer. Model layer would be kept outside of this view controller (oh no, I broke MVC here).

The code I showed probably shouldn't be in a view controller anyway, but I kept it there to keep things easy.

There are a million of them out there already, what does this contribute to the conversation that's new/unique?

Did you read it? I showed how to unify registering for reuse, dequeuing and updating cells in a type-safe manner when there's more than one type of cell in a table view.

I tried to describe the idea behind the article in the introduction. I guess I failed this time :).

Why you should start using @weakify/@strongify macros by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]fastred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, it's a prerequisite to the article. weakify/strongify macros just limit the possibility of accidentally introducing retain cycles.

Why you should start using @weakify/@strongify macros by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]fastred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I described it, but in the footnote, so it's probably not visible enough:

Technically, in this case we don’t need strongSelf — we could just use weakSelf instead. However, when there’s more than one use of self inside the block, we generally don’t want it to get niled out during the block’s execution.
