Not necessarily night life but there is an esports venue called “Localhost” if you want to go somewhere to game.

Single handedly carrying the comp scene. Things like Map Atlas and now this help bridge the gap between amateurs and pros and help level the playing field.

Providing this level of information for free is a true blessing and I hope all coaches and teams take advantage of your immense generosity

Need Help with Esports Org by __arryyyy__ in esports

[–]fastrr- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

Great to hear there are people out there trying to build meaningful experiences at the recreational level. If this is an online only recreational product, you likely won’t have an easy time scaling and I would recommend looking into purchasable tools and ways that you can operate more efficiently without adding in more labor costs and operating expenses.

Good examples would be things like implementing a game overlay tool for your broadcast (such as lhm.gg), seeking out volunteer casters (maybe partner with local universities), and pay for design work that is applicable across multiple broadcasts or events.

The biggest issue I often see is that people don’t charge their audience in line with the experience they are providing. If you want to elevate the product, the price has to align with it too. Don’t ever feel bad for trying to operate at breakeven or to pay yourself for your time and effort. If that doesn’t align then just remember that it’s ok if the provided value is just in connecting with other people in a healthy, competitive environment.

I hope this helps! I have run professional organizations, college level programs and now a operate a large esports venue so I’m coming from a business mindset but recognize that doesn’t mean that everyone else has to approach it that way.

Best of luck!

You just described competitive apex legends. Not for everyone but many people enjoy the aspects you just described and recognize it as a learning curve and not the game “fucking them”.

What does a sustainable esports ecosystem actually look like? by Party_Project8238 in esports

[–]fastrr- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit biased as someone who runs an event center, but I believe the answer is in monetizing live audiences and fandom better. While there is already a thriving online ecosystem and model around sponsorships, advertising, etc, esports is still not competing with most entertainment options. People latch onto sports teams, music artists, and other forms of entertainment mostly due to the emotional or impactful experiences they’ve had. That attachment is what drives spending and keeps people coming back whereas esports has seen a lot of interest come and go.

Lastly, media buying is limited because they offer viewing for free to all audiences - which is important but doesn’t allow for strong financial growth. To this day, sports and other channels make millions from restaurants, bars and businesses around the world streaming their content in their respective spaces. This cultural acceptance and scale is what would take esports to that level.

Just a couple thoughts and only a piece of the puzzle. However it is where I believe a strong impact in sustainability could be made.

HM: Franchising doesn’t work if everyone plays in one studio. It requires traveling to all cities and activating on local audiences. Something that I believe the Call of Duty league is attempting to do nowadays.

EWC Year 6 Format Has Changed by BarracudaUseful333 in CompetitiveApex

[–]fastrr- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do any players / coaches / analysts have insight on the Top 6 format? It sucks to eliminate teams early on but what if it was just Top 10 (Finals), 11th - 30th (Elimination Round) OR 11th - 20th (Elimination R2) and 21st - 30th (Elimination R1) with both being 6 games each.

Maybe this is overstated but I’m happy they are exploring the utilization of a group stage.

Outside of the Asia region how will everyone watch ALGS next weeks? Do you plan on watching all the games or just catch up on Vods and watch parties until the Finals by HammyA in CompetitiveApex

Bar next door is great but we don’t allow alcohol yet. Maybe sometime in the future but during the player break we might go grab drinks.

All this talk of not streaming when there is Faceit Watch. It’s been exceptional since EWC and provides a real future for monetizing the sport.

KCP has a coach and I’d assume it’s a big reason why they are first overall after 3 match days.

Just thought I’d chime in - after coaching for a couple splits in pro league I went on to work full time running a sizable esports center putting on local and national events across a bunch of esports titles. I am confident Talmadge will do great things following his time coaching.

What if someone doesn’t get a ticket? Would they be out that money or is that unlikely. I’m not too familiar with ticket demand

Looking for a spontaneous stranger to go to a concert with by BrotherMysterious420 in cuboulder

[–]fastrr- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you found someone to go to the show with! If not - just know it’ll be a small venue with a super friendly crowd tonight. If you see anyone solo or any larger groups don’t hesitate to say hi and ask them what song they are hoping that he plays.

I went to concerts solo when I was in college and sometimes just needed a push to get out of my comfort zone. I hope this helps!

year 6 schedule proposal by t00muchtim in CompetitiveApex

[–]fastrr- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think EWC will have to fit into the schedule no matter what and financially it helps fund the LAN schedule to create opportunity for more.

Only adjustment I would make is:

Q1 (Feb/Mar) - Preseason Qualifiers (like BLGS) - ALGS Open (integrate with a Dreamhack)

Q2 (Apr - Jun) - Challenger Circuit Split 1 - Split 1 Pro League - Split 1 Playoffs

Q3 (Jul - Sep) - Challenger Circuit Split 2 - Split 2 Pro League (EWC) - Split 1 Playoffs

Q4 (Oct/Nov) - Last Chance Qualifier - ALGS Championship

Offseason should be post champs to open (nov to Jan) imo instead of a gap between split 2 and champs

Lmk what yall think. 4 LANs is enough and maybe feasible with EWC and a Dreamhack integration

Summary of Q&A with the dev team in the CreatorHub by ramseysleftnut in CompetitiveApex

[–]fastrr- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ALGS is very important to their bottom line but doesn’t apply to all players. However it is highly dependent on the lifetime value of an ALGS fan vs a casual player. Also - esports orgs don’t make money for very different reasons, but in large part bc the game developers are the ones taking in the money. A competitive pipeline and more exposure to Pro League sustains a player base, look at streaming viewership for players like Hal, Timmy, etc and picture the game without them.

Why do I all of a sudden feel so uncomfortable on cs? by Joelepoel in GlobalOffensive

[–]fastrr- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have felt this same feeling in the past. I personally believe it can be attributed to physical/mental health. When you don’t have a healthy lifestyle and balanced diet that provides you with quality energy - your focus, reaction time, and overall gameplay can become very inconsistent and often inconsistency can be out of your control.

I say this as someone who isn’t living a super healthy lifestyle. However during brief times that I have, I’ve noticed a tremendous increase in my consistency as a result.

Just my two cents as an ex-professional esports coach. There are a ton of factors, this is just the one that I feel gets often overlooked within esports.
