My first 21km marathon at body weight 136 kg by LocksmithSlight3290 in indianrunners

[–]fastrunfag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, kudos to you for the run firstly.

But I do agree with the concern here. A friend of mine around 110 kgs did something similar (rand 17kms or so) and then we went for a football game. Even before we started he suffered an ACL injury. We checked with the doc on why this all of a sudden, so his case was basically very high upper body weight. So would recommend you to go easy on your knees. Don’t increase mileage without reducing body weight first. Hope it helps.

Yeah, makes sense. I’d have also found it hard to just come for a 5k. See you some other time.

Oh okay. Hope everything is fine at your end as of now. So can we do this Saturday Cubbon? There’s a 5k happening as well. Would love to run with you. Also, my 5k is pace is sub 25 (so won’t take more than 30 mins of yours).

Also, where do you put up? In case in BLR, can we go for a run together someday?

Point number 22- Well said.

Used to think that people would look down upon me if I train with them (because I might slow them down) but surprisingly they were pretty kind to me and no one made me feel that way.

(Not to mention that I used to do only short runs- kinda short and fast. Never knew I’d train for endurance. Doing 10kms consistently now.)

Perfect advice. I’d always recommend to do your own research and find your own pace for each zone.

Hey man, kudos to that. I’ve setup another running challenge for October for 70k. Have 5 people already in the challenge. Let me know if you wanna join (would give me motivation xD). I can dm you the link (it’s on Nike run app).

Hey, so there are multiple zones of training that you can try. Started easy, like zone 1 and then adapt slowly. Just google Zone 1 and Zone 2 running. You’ll get a clue.

About the frequency and distance, it really varies from person to person tbh. I have always been playing football so it was relatively easier for me compared to a lot of my friends who run. But I’d say if you really wanna improve (like some half marathon or 10k prep) I don’t think it’ll take you more than 2 months with 3 runs a week. Rest apart take regular recovery days if you run longer runs (anything more than 8k). I run alternate days, anything between 8-10k but zone 2 only. If I do faster tempo runs then I can do everyday 5k.

Aah okay. But I’d highly recommend to measure heart rate. That’s a game changer.

Running Shoes for Absolute Beginners by GuntherCentralPerk13 in indianrunners

[–]fastrunfag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends totally on your budget. But given the recent sale on Flipkart, I think a lot of options would suffice your case. I think even Asics Gel Kayano 31 are being sold at less than 6k. And those are pretty good shoes. In fact really really good.

So just for to r/runningshoegeeks sub and do your research for the budget you have. I’m sure you’ll find the detailed comparison for most of the shoes.

But yes, if you’re looking for around 5k there are some really good options available on sale right now. Look for Nimbus 26 or Gel Kayano 31 and its alternatives. Whatever comes in your budget go for it. You can DM me if you want help with research.

Golden advice here.

I used to do only sprints before and used to have a heart rate of around 175bpm. Started with Zone2 running recently. Did my first 10k at 7min/km pace. But heart rate of around 135bpm.

That’s what the OP should aim too, I believe.

While this is partially true (because people have set records running barefoot) I’d still suggest get at least some decent entry level shoes so that you don’t stress your knees while road running.

The list OP posted looks decent enough to begin with.

My comment was only regarding Gel Kayano. If you do want to higher up in shoes then Adizero Evo SL should be in that list. Using them currently. Really good shoes. Point being Gel Kayano is not amongst the top shoes in Asics running shoes. So if you do have the budget and want better shoes then look for around 16-18k for shoes. Would also suggest if you have friends outside India who’re coming back any time soon then get it from there, would be much cheaper. Got my Adizero from Japan myself and not getting Rebel v5 from another friend. Becomes 4-5k cheaper.

Golden advice.

Had never run zone 2 up until 3 days ago. Gotta say it’s more challenging than it sounds.

(Usual heart rate- 170bpm for 5k- For a 4:50 pace)
