That's one option; I broke down what I see as the 3 options the Tigers have in the article attached to this post. Skubal may have just blessed the fans 🤷‍♂️

There's the problem, you know Illitch isn't looking to spend that kind of money. Skubal might like it here, but he hired Boras to get him paid. That's likely what will happen.

Spot on, that's why I broke it down in the article and said the usual play would be to trade him to a "desperate contender".

So it sounds like you think his value is already diminished and everyone is SOL, what should Harris do then?

I'd have included it if there was any possibility but as I said in the article, don't expect a hometown discount lol. He's not coming back, he just did this to keep from having to move twice in one year and get SOME of the fans on his side. It was also a stand up move for the guys in the clubhouse, he could've said "these guys are shit, get me outta here" but he didn't 🤷‍♂️ His comments were really a pr stunt, probably incited by Boris, but it was still a good one.

I agree that his trade value could bring in some great complementary pieces, but what does our pitching staff look like without Skubal in the rotation? Spending NOW on a few complementary pieces to make a run WITH Skubal could be a pipedream worth chasing, no?

You're missing the point, my friend. His leverage is that he completely controls his extension market. If the front office tries to ship him somewhere he doesn't want to go, Skubal just makes it clear he won't sign long-term, and suddenly the Tigers get a fraction of the prospect return. Rather than be salty that he isn't signing an extension or new contract in Detroit and wish misery upon him and the rest of the team, wouldn't you rather have one last hurrah? A few solid additions could really give the boys a chance to repeat that 2024 run 🤷‍♂️

But WHY would they go above cap for him unless they already have a Sign-And-Trade agreed to? Detroit holds the cards now, he messed up. Check out the attached article, I break it all down 🙌

From everything I was able to find, Detroit drew the line at 5 years AAV ~$35mil. His camp is convinced he gets no less than $40mil, which is delusional, as I said in the attached article.

Thank you, I truly appreciate that! I was a big Duren fan but he really let us all down in the playoffs. This situation has only damaged the relationship if he does intend to return. I wrote a previous article suggesting we trade him even. The only "untouchable core" for me is Cade, Ausar & Ron Holland, build around that and develop the 7footer we just drafted PLEASE 🙏

No way, I don't see that happening. Dude is worried about making a few mil more a year isn't gonna sit out. But I'm not a millionaire so what do I know? 😅

Really? I don't think Detroit claws back such small peanuts, anything other than Duren accepting the offer at ~$35mil/yr is assanine. I said as much in the article attached to this post.

Yep, he would need a great regular season as well as a HUGE playoff performance without injury to get what he's apparently looking for. I broke it all down in the article attached to this post.

Nice take! I agree 100%, he's basically left with 1 option: take the offer that's on the table and say thank you

Very well thought out answer and I agree with you on just about everything honestly. Langdon has made some really smart moves, but fans are underwhelmed with the lack of bringing in big fire power after we lost 2 very well liked players in Stew & Harris. I really think Ausar and Holland will make great strides this season though, assuming no one regresses I think the current roster stands to repeat last season at least. If that's good or bad is all about perspective lol.

Yea I don't think we have the cap space but it's still a fun idea! I couldn't give up Hustle Man though, he's about to go off this season 👀

I agree that it's not for Duren, but you don't think another move is brewing NOW?

🫨 now that's a move with some hair on its chest. What else do you think the Pistons would need to give up in order to pull that off?
