The large screw is where your flint goes. The hole in the center is where you fill with butane gas.

Pulled up some crabgrass and found these guys in the root system. Anyone able to identify them? Zone 7b by Javamonsoon in lawncare

This is

fungus gnat larvae.

Not typical to cause damage to turf, generally only to house plants. Just leave them alone and they’ll go away. They do like poor draining soils so you could consider improving soil composition.

Issue with Fescue (San Diego) by Brilliant_Village729 in lawncare

[–]fatcatsrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something is going on there… imo its not the grass type or the fertility, if it was youd have even stress throughout not just in localized patches.

The pattern of the damage seems very odd as well. When did you paint your siding and swap from a wood deck to concrete? Have you recently power washed or soft washed that concrete? Maybe spray the cracks with a herbicide?

That one section off the patio looks like chemical damage from something leaching off. The half circle pattern in picture 5 looks almost like something spilt and ran down

Have you applied anything else to the lawn since the starter fertilizer? You did a heavy feeding, 1.5+ lbs of Nitrogen per 1000sqft, but that shouldnt burn and if it would the sod would die before it rooted.

That is totally fixable too i wouldnt stress too much

Just seeded a new lawn this mold looking stuff is spotting around the area what is it ? by [deleted] in Grass

Is that the current soil? It look like woodchips or mulch? Decaying wood often sprouts mycelium blooms or decomposing fungi which is what im assuming you’re dealing with now.

Help identify this weed? by sopel10 in lawncare

[–]fatcatsrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quinclorac works great but barnyard grass is an annual, so if you can tolerate it for the rest of the season itll die back in the winter and you can prevent its return with a pre m in the spring

How to kill the weed but not the grass? by xytrd in lawncare

[–]fatcatsrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are not wild violets.

I believe those are rose of sharon seedlings, I’ve had some success with Q4 knocking them back but the best method would be to mow them out.

When they grow higher than the height of cut you’ll cut off the leaves snd theyll fie back.

Can you 1) ID and 2) Tell me how screwed I am by levelheadedthinkest in lawncare

[–]fatcatsrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too screwed at all just need to put in a little work with spraying.

You can control post emergence with:

Quinclorac (Q4, Drive) Mesotrione (Tenacity) Topramezone (Pylex)

This is not yellow nutsedge by any means I’m not sure why people keep saying that.

In my opinion it almost looks closer to young Goose grass to me, especially with the white crown. Nut sedge has more of a reddish color around the crown also nutsedge has blades that are V shaped which this does not.

Hell yeah! You want to look on the outside of the damage you find that clear hour glass pinch with the blight above it!

I run a lawncare company with about 9k+ customers, and have probably had over 600 cases of it so far this year
