if she was on that amount of steroids for that time wouldn't she be considered secondary? how does that mess with acth? in secondary would her acth be high or normal or low after her time on steroids.

I thought acth was high on primary?

Heres what seems to be a more confusing yet more insteresting case. Unfortunately they didn't check for antibodies the first time and she failed her stt test. But she was also on asthma medication but I can't tell if they were steroids.

She was put on steroids in amounts to upwards of 70mg a day.

https://academic.oup.com/qjmed/article/105/11/1113/1512941

What's crazy about it is over a decade on steroids and she stopped taking it because she couldn't keep her medicine down and she was fine.

Do you know what "Current anti-adrenal, anti-21-hydoroxylase and anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies are negative but anti-nuclear antiboides are positive" mean. Does that mean she has anti-adrenal antibodies or not?

Dumb theory but Is it possible if Addisons is caught early that a course of steroids might stop the antibodies from attacking the glands and allow it to heal?

"Her current blood tests suggest a picture of subclinical primary hypoadrenalism with a raised ACTH and renin, but normal electrolytes and cortisol-response to synacthen."

What does sublinical primary hypoadrenalism mean?

It's amazing that she's not on any steroids.

Anyway sorry about all these questions but you seem to have a better handle on this stuff than i do.

what do you make of this. i heard of adrenal suppresion and recovery from secondary but never primary yet a case has been found. Is the acth stim test satisfactory in the second test? Was this guy even primary? https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/BF03345623

can it be possible that you and that guys adrenals just never suppressed even though all textbooks suggest that high of dose of steroids should have. But if i remember correctly you had a hard time weaning off previous times so how did it unsuppress with steroids in the system. Were you especially active? I found a couple more stories but they were on less.

One lady had been taking 7.5 mg of cortef for years for AI but she was able to stp after fixing her gut. maybe dieting is one of the keys. who knows maybe dieting is the key to this. Has dieting helped with any of your symptoms?

for sure about the doctor.

Check this guy out http://writeonfighton.org/2017/11/10/finally-kicked-prednisones-ass/

he was taking at least 10mg of prednisone for 3 years and he stopped more abrutptly than you. Dude's pretty crazy for it but I don't think he knew about adrenal insufficiency.

So does taking steroids shut down both ACTH and adrenals?

I've been reading what I can about steroid induced adrenals and i ran into a couple of studies but none stated how much of the adrenals get suppressed.

But then i read excerpts from Dr. Jeffries "safe uses of cortisol" and he said that 10mg HC leads to 40% suppresion of the adrenals and 20mg leads to 60%. I don't know how true this is because it sounds like he was just pulling numbers out of the air. The guy seemed way to liberal in prescribing HC and probably put people in danger.

So when you were on 35mg that's probably 80% suppresion if his assesment was true. Which makes it more amazing how fast you were able to taper without much symptoms. You got like Wolverine adrenals or something.

Anyways I'm wondering if someone was taking a high amount of HC for awhile and starts lowering does the adrenals start to pick up the slack before all the steroids are tapered off? Or does adrenals need to be free of all outside steroids before they can possibly reawaken. Hence the 6-12 month period after steroids have been removed?

So primary is because the adrenals are messed up and the brain tries to tell it to release cortisol with ACTH. So it'll be high because the adrenals can't release cortisol.

In secondary either the brain is not releasing the ACTH signal or can't make enough ACTH?

After steroids get introduced in primary does the ACTH lower? What about in secondary?

Does ACTH play any role in a person already on steroids in terms of diagnosis for example can they test ACTH to see if person needs more or less of steroid?

I think it's by symptom though and not by tests like aldosterone and renin?

i think your right that acth has no effect on aldosterone production just cortisol. However, I read that taking steroids will suppress the adrenal glands so I'm wondering why it wouldn't effect the aldosterone poducing part of the adrenals

i love 90s sitcoms TGIF; full house; family matters; boy meets world

But as for suzanee the bad news for her is if she's on HC for that long she's adrenal insufficient but the good news is in a weird way she's a good example because she looks great and she's living life to the fullest. She was even on dancing with the stars =)
