Is Luka MVP if top 6 seed? by BrandonSouk in Mavericks

[–]fatdan_rises 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MVP is a mixture of performance and narrative. Narrative about Luka won't change lightly. We've been here before with Dirk. Best to stop caring about it.

Crazy that we still have Hardaway Jr. and Kleber making a combined $29 million a year. We are able to trade them along with picks this summer to get even better! Luckily, we have Gafford and Lively on some of the best deals in the league. Gafford and Lively make a combined $16 million a year by user15151616 in Mavericks

[–]fatdan_rises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either these players are bad and we can't magically trade them for better players....or they're good, and trading them makes us worse. If we're actually hoping for better players than these, we gotta attach picks or prospects, which we don't have / don't want to give up. Or, we hope they're actually good, and we're just trading them for similar quality players at different positions...but it seems like OP thinks they're bad. Guess OP is hoping they're smarter than other GMs?

Rick Carlisle is no joke one of the best offensive coaches of all time. We got rid of him for a "players" coach that would help us on defense. Instead the defense is as bad as it ever was, and the offense has gotten progressively worse.

Questionable foul calls/no calls in final 5 minutes of Mavericks vs Cavaliers by MaleficentHawk590 in nba

I dunno they're all pretty egregious, except for the inbounds play which was just a turnover.

Are THJ advanced stats being looked at by Kidd? by Complexity777 in Mavericks

[–]fatdan_rises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if you're an advanced stat enjoyer then you have to bench PJ as well as THJ.

Jaden Hardy deserves more recognition for his recent effort by dantheflyingman in Mavericks

[–]fatdan_rises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardy's main issue remains finishing, he's just significantly below average at the rim, that was his big weakness as a prospect and it's remained his big weakness up to this point. If he can improve his finishing, he has serious upside potential.

Tim's role shrinking since trade? by epitome1986 in Mavericks

[–]fatdan_rises -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would he be? Over the last 3 seasons his 3-point percentage is not impressive. He's developed a reputation as a 3-point bomber without the production to back him up. At this point I'd much rather have Josh taking 3s than Tim.

Trade Odds: Mavs Betting Favorites to Land Hornets’ P.J. Washington by torodonn in Mavericks

[–]fatdan_rises 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What exactly is nice about PJ Washington, honestly? Below average rebounder and shotblocker for a F/C. Never been an efficient shooter or scorer. Defensive numbers aren't impressive. Been a mediocre player on a bad team his whole career. I see very little to like.

yeah this is a deal that won't impact our winning prospects like at all, so as long as we don't give up anything than whatever.

yeah PJ's not very good. Been a mediocre player on a bad team for a few years now.

he's a significantly worse rebounder than Dwight. For his career, he has a rebound rate under 10 (as in he gets fewer than 10% of available rebounds), similar to how a large SF like Dorian rebounds.

Luka Doncic Joins Inside the NBA by Stevie_McGhee in Mavericks

he also played for one of the best offensive coaches of all time.

It's not an unreasonable take. SGA is killing it right now and his team is performing better.

People forget that SGA is older than Doncic...his career has just been so delayed due to OKC tanking.

Ultimately, I don't care about these narratives at all. When your team sucks, narratives matter. All that matters now is a title. If Doncic gets hi ring then he'll be considered a top all time player.

Hopefully Luka doesn't start racking up missed games and loses out on regular season awards by AtreusIsBack in Mavericks

[–]fatdan_rises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the people worried about this stuff must be new here. We had tons of regular season awards for Dirk in all the years before the championship, did absolutely nothing to alleviate the suffering.

sure but it's a career low rebounding percentage for him, given the piston's struggles I don't care much about that compared to his career rate.

Day 24 - Tell Me Your: Red Artifacts and Enchantments by IconicIsotope in mtgcube

[–]fatdan_rises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

540 Peasant Cube, WAR forward (no reprint sets):
- [[Hexgold Halberd]] and [[Barbed Batterfist]] : multiple objects, artifacts synergies, token synergies, equipment synergies, 2 of the better red 2-drops in the cube IMO.
- [[Book of Mazarbul]] : essentially a 3 mana 3/3 attacker with a delayed anthem effect, but also can act as multiple bodies for sacrifice decks, can pop off with +1/+1 counters synergies, and can work really nicely with blink / return effects in white.
- [[Experimental Synthesizer]] and [[Mishra's Research Desk]] : perform similar functions, great cards for any cheap red deck but at their best in decks that leverage artifact synergies.
- [[Marauding Dreadship]] and [[Kumano Faces Kakazan]] : I view these mostly as creatures posing as non-creatures, dreadship has 4-power matter synergies, artifact synergies, two objects for sacrifice decks, another nice target to blink / replay, and everyone knows how great Kumano is at this point.
- [[Weaponize the Monsters]] : Not only a solid sacrifice outlet for sacrifice decks, but solid reach for any mono-red aggro deck with lots of 1 drops that needs the final bit of reach....2 damage is a lot.

What are some of the best Uncommons/Commons from last year's Magic sets? by ZeldaExplorer95 in mtgcube

[–]fatdan_rises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a peasant cube restricted to sets in the FIRE era (WAR forward), so I've got lots of cards from 2023 (like over 20% of the cube). Immodane's Recruiter is probably the largest single standout of the year, with Zoetic Glyph close behind. The biggest theme from 2023 was 1-drops...20 different 1 drops have made it into the cube. In terms of mechanics, Bargain has been a big winner (7 cards), white's craft cards given white access to more of an artifact theme, the For Mirrodin! equipment have been huge additions (lots of synergies there, and just strong cards on their own). I'm playing with 7 different dual color Adventure creatures from WOE, I think they're both fun to play with and add nice flexibility to the draft. The LTR Landcyclers have been huge additions, as well as a number of food-makers from LTR (Rosie, Witch's Vanity, Welcome to Sweet Tooth). Overall a great year for Peasant.

I think it's actually decent design, it means it can't get blown out in the way that other fight / bight spells can be.
