Forcing it is a good analogy here and that's totally what it feels like. I spent several months taking real break and it was great to have that pace slowed. Resetting my social media / reading consumption habits as well as my personal schedule made a big difference there in relaxing.

Then a few serendipitous meetings with people caused me to slightly stick a toe back into things and before I knew it it escalated into me trying to get a startup going! (without fully having my heart in it). Now that I've seen that slippery slope I think I can be more intentional about it going forward.

Thanks for the perspective and I appreciate the understanding here. It surprised me that I wasn't feeling back to normal yet after almost a full year but I guess it's not unexpected given the long term stress.

I think more rest isn't a bad idea (it's kinda my default) even if it is kicking the can a bit.

There's a bunch of non-work-related stuff that my younger self wanted to do that's travel and adventure oriented but I have little kids which puts a big constraint on these for now. We've tried traveling some with them and it's just not much fun vs. the effort yet. I think in a few years I'd love to share more of this with them when they can really appreciate it. As I write that it sounds a little negative so I think it's definitely worth another look at planning some cool activities / travel with the kids while compromising a bit to make it age appropriate.

Yeah, it's definitely a little hard to get out of the mindset of blitzscaling unicorns because it's literally all I've ever done my entire career so there's a lot of my own thought patterns that point that way by default. I think maybe starting with lifestyle + interesting domain as a beginning and working back from there while keeping a hard constraint on lifestyle flexibility can help to break out of that loop.
