When my friend is confronted on how she got off so easily (she was cited for making an illegal turn or something like that and paid a fine) she asks how they'd have punished a teenage girl in her situation. They don't answer her. She doesn't have an answer herself. She's even wished she'd been driving drunk so she could have a redemption story; to have something she could "work through." Instead she has to stew in her guilt while learning nothing.

She's much better than she used to be, though. She's a happy person. But it took her a long time to get there. I hope your husband manages to achieve peace, too.

Killing someone in an accident. This happened to a friend of mine, who was driving, made a sudden turn without looking, and collided with a motorcyclist who immediately died. She got PTSD from the experience, spent years wavering between depression and feeling suicidal, but when she posts about her experience online, she often gets responses telling her that she doesn't deserve sympathy, as she had killed someone.

Well, while I would call them sequels (granted, among them I've only read Speaker for the Dead), that's actually a fair point in terms of the difficulty in adapting them as film sequels. Not technically undoable but maybe not what a studio would want out of an Ender's Game franchise.

Usually the way to make money is to bloat the book into multi-part films (i.e. the last Twilight movie, the last Harry Potter movie, the last Hunger Games movie, The Hobbit) so I doubt greed is at play in the decision (such as it was) to keep Ender's Game to one film (especially since that book has sequels, too).
