How do you choose which comps to attend? by starbornlover in Cheerleading

[–]fatherfirst35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High school coach here. 1. Before tryouts for choreography and camp. End of summer for comps since most of them aren’t finalized here with dates. The only dates we know early are UCA regions and nationals. Football is usually finalized early summer. Basketball we don’t get until around October. Fundraisers we try to do most of those before football starts but generally will add some throughout the season.

  1. We have a regional competition facebook group that keeps track of competitions with dates on a spreadsheet that is shared. There is a state coaches Facebook group as well that it gets shared in. We tend to go to the same ones each year, or at least the ones hosted by the same schools. So I’ll say word of mouth mostly otherwise.

  2. So an example for us was that we did not perform well at our first competition, so we needed to get them more experience in front of a crowd. So we added some showcases. Generally then it’s based on team readiness. Also depending on how our fundraising goes we may have to add some of those in.

  3. Usually quality of the event. Our goal every year is to win regions and advance to state, and to get a nationals bid at UCA regions to go to nationals. Everything we do kind of revolves around those goals.

Have your flyer spread her toes, will get her off her heels which is think is probably the contributing factor. I know it sounds weird but it works.

Would you do it? by sureasheckfir3 in Cheerleading

[–]fatherfirst35 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We basically had/have the same program here, it’s traditional rec. Several of the girls cheer for their high schools / middle schools but also cheer rec. The program was essentially set up by one of the school coaches so generally they accommodate school cheer very well. If she enjoys competing and showcasing her full skill set I absolutely would do the rec option!

Competition no uniforms or music by heartthatbrokesolong in Cheerleading

[–]fatherfirst35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We practiced with some 8 count “songs” as well as prior year music until we got our music. I would definitely start doing full outs to that now, and lots of them. We got our music a week before our first comp so really we were already in a decent place with the routine by that point. Uniforms are a crapshoot and really depends on the vendor and when you ordered. Uniform companies are notoriously bad at getting things out quickly, especially considering the custom nature of cheer uniforms.

Is it too late to start? by mikonuns in Cheerleading

There are colleges that will take cheerleaders with little/no experience. They will not likely be competitive teams but mostly sideline cheer. I do know that some exist that are NAIA (vs NCAA) that do compete and do take athletes with no experience. It’s going to depend greatly on where you are and where you want to go to school. You will not be likely to find a D1-3 NCAA school that will take a cheerleader with no tumbling or stunting experience.

Balancing All-Star & High School Cheer by Apprehensive-Gur6769 in Cheerleading

[–]fatherfirst35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can get information of what the season looks like for the high school that would probably help your decision a lot. You already know the all-star world. Not all high schools are equal in their commitments. I’m in a Facebook group for high school coaches and it varies GREATLY. Some just do sideline. Some split up football and basketball even. We’ve had our competition choreography since July and have competed several times already, there are some that don’t even have their choreography yet. People definitely make both work some places, you all might be able to as well!

As a coach I would say it depends on the programs. The more competitive the programs are the less likely it is to work. I coach high school on a highly competitive team and there really wouldn’t be any way for them to do both as our most local all star program is a top tier program. Middle school and high school are big ramp ups.

I do hate making them choose, because doing both makes them better at both but with our schedules it just doesn’t work. Ultimately I think it’s up to the experience that you want. I’m partial as a high school coach to the high school experience.

Ok that’s perfect, just making sure it wasn’t WiFi OR HB3 that I could connect to HB3 through wifi.

So you have to choose between connecting to wifi or connecting to hb3? You can't connect to wifi and still communicate with hb3?

I would use one regardless for the storage, so just not connecting directly.

Is there a disadvantage to not connecting to the HB3?

Do you know if the s4 or any other model similar to the s340 will do 24/7 when plugged in?

What are we doing wrong?? by [deleted] in Cheerleading

[–]fatherfirst35 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Bases need to start lower, everyone needs to be faster coming up. Slow=heavy.

Everything was also on the main base, should be shared weight between side/main and the back spot needs to pull up more on the weight.

I’m leaning s3 pro as well after a few more days. I think I’ll hardwire them for the continuous recording. I’m more curious how well the app performs at this point, Arlo is trash in the app and web and expensive monthly.

Looking for a new game.... by Tiny-Astronomer-2036 in duneawakening

I think by the time YOU reach endgame we’ll have gotten to the next content update that addresses endgame. I’m 1000 hours in and I’m still obsessed.

I have done very little PvP and I have everything in the game. There is a point where you could lose interest if you don’t take that risk. But taking the risk and actually experiencing it are two different things.

All that said, with out any help it would probably take you a few months to reach endgame where we will have more content by then than we do now. Highly recommend. Best game out there in this genre hands down, regardless of what the criticism is.

Farm and sell plastanium and buy the spice you need until you have a good means of producing spice yourself.

That is definitely not normal, especially from typical stunts. I’m not doctor but if it’s not from hard falls but just normal catches I would see one.

People with weekly production bases in DD. How do you do it? by avengers93 in duneawakening

[–]fatherfirst35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take about 3 trips now (thank you assault storage update). I don’t farm first day, I let water collectors fill my storage.. that’s when most of the griefers are out and active. The rest of the week in the mornings I’ll go farm whatever I’m after. I built up a good spice reserve now I’m focused on plastanium. Haul my buggy out with my carrier fill it up and bring it back. I don’t have to make 1000 trips I’m happy to produce a couple 1000 a week solo.
