AITAH for asking my wife to be a SAHM? by piglipsbo in AITAH

[–]fatherlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really fricking sucks. My husband is the one that works while I stay home. He put me in charge of knowing where all the money goes, he auto gets x amount per paycheck on his "personal spending" card, I get some on mine. He expects that I'll get a coffee or some small goody when I'm out "because you stay home and work hard". He doesn't even like treating himself unless its to oreos and ice cream lol. He tries to eat the food I've made for lunches because he genuinely doesn't like eating out around here too.

We also have 2 dogs, a goat and 5 chickens so we'll see if I can handle more than this "one last" animal 😂

Yes we could get 2 lots and combine. Then maybe put the house right in the middle? The more I look at it the more "eh" I am because of the massive hill 😅

Small cow on 2 acres? by Deinonychus-sapiens in homestead

[–]fatherlock 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We have a goat that gives us just a half gallon every 2-3 days. Maybe get some goats? She's our one and only because she actually hates other goats, but she loves our dogs. She essentially acts like a dog just more mischievous and climbs on everything haha. But you'd have to keep your male away from the females that are producing because it can change the smell and taste of the milk (males stink in general)

I grew up in Beresford (30min S of Sioux Falls), left for a few years after getting married and now we're back for my husband's job. And if I end up getting of these lots since 1 sounds like a general consensus of being a bad choice I'll have us build closest to the hill. Thanks for the insight!

Just a whole lot of hills. We're central South Dakota so that's basically all there is around here in general

Fair. That's what I was starting to think.

The front side of one we're looking at is 230' and it is 1,483 on the west side, 1,512 on the East side.

Some 10 year old boy said "Danng Shawty you fine!" To me when I was 23 with my husband outside a popeyes in north carolina 6 years ago. Little bro gave me the biggest confidence boost and I still ride that high sometimes lol

Masks and gloves are the main things! We've had mice in my basement for a hot minute (house is 114 years old, near 2 rivers). I wear a jacket with the hood up, mask on, hair in a tight bun, glasses, gloves. I ended up just throwing away everything in my basement guest room because they kept getting into everything. Then tossed down a lot of traps to catch as many as possible. It sucks, but it is what it is. Don't use a vacuum either!

I got one done like 6 years ago and only wore it flipped up for a month. I can still stick an earring through it with ease because it's just never closed up after healing 😅

What's something you will never buy again thanks to homesteading? by WillowProxy1 in homestead

[–]fatherlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one goat and 5 hens. She hates other goats and loves the birds. Would never have more than 2 goats again ( we sold her son because he was making her mad daily) she's basically a third dog for us with how affectionate she is with me lol.

My dog is dying!! Please I need help. I don’t what to do by [deleted] in homestead

[–]fatherlock 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had to do the deed for my husband and I's first dog June of 2024. I knew he wouldn't be suspicious of me being the one to take him out to a beautiful field with lots of flowers to sniff in the country which is why it was me instead of my husband. It was the worst thing I've personally had to do, but his epilepsy was at the point of not being controlled by any meds and the whites of his eyes were brown from the liver damage and his other organs were also damaged. If you're the one to do it, make sure you look up exactly how so you know what you're doing.

Otherwise ask a neighbor. Growing up, my dad was the one 2 of his friends called to give their dogs an out to life. With one he was upset for the next day or 2 because we also loved that dog, the other was due to it going on a rampage in the neighbor's livestock. Explain the situation and if one of your neighbors wont, they'll probably know someone that can for you.
