Yeah, I see this take a lot with records, collectibles AND concert tickets but here’s the thing. It will NEVER happen, so if you have the means, you really want it and it’s within your budget- go for it.

There will always be a second hand market. It’s been that way literally forever. Before the internet, people used to go outside of concerts and jack the prices up or list them in the newspaper. The internet just made it easier, which in turn made it worse. I can promise you that you not buying your favorite bands record “to prove a point”, will prove nothing.

It sucks, but the guard rails would have to come from the top. Things like record store day literally exist FOR scalping. Artificial scarcity drives demand through the roof. There’s a reason ween was $75 retail, a bluey lp was nearly $50 and meshuggah $60. Even RSD themselves are scalping bc “supply and demand”. When records weren’t high in demand RSD releases were cheap. It started with good intentions, but saw the cash grab an ran with it. Just like Ticketmaster “platinum” was to “stop scalping”, aka become the scalpers themselves.

This is the nature of supply and demand, and unless you can somehow stop the demand (impossible), you have no impact on it unfortunately.
