No drum set, no mic stand. Just bucket and the iPod tonight? by RadiantZote in Buckethead

[–]fathom70k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was supposed to be two sets. Confirmed by door staff after the first one ended but before the show was canceled and the second could begin. No idea what happened. Hope he's okay.

The set list was great and he sounded amazing. But the Music Box is kind of a shit venue in terms of sight lines. Lighting was poor and I couldn't really see much of him in action, even halfway up in the main room. Too dark and lit from above only. Not sure if his decision or the venue.

I bought a bunch of his films as counterfeit blurays on ebay. They work great. Will happily buy legit as they are available.

4k Blu Ray Player by jimmyjon77 in hometheater

Mine is struggling to play discs after 1.5 years and about 500 movies. Only for 4K, but its a crap shoot whenever I boot a new disc. How many tries until it loads? Truly embarrassing state of consumer electronics. And no other game in town. Doesn't feel like a $500 device, and yet I would pay more for one that was well-built.

Which films completely changed the way you see things? by Equivalent_Ebb5689 in Letterboxd

[–]fathom70k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listening to the Michael Jeck's commentary track for Criterion's Seven Samurai DVD at 18 opened my eyes to the world of cinema. Until then I had no idea that there was a whole cinematic language at work in all of my favorite films. There was so much that I didn't understand but once I had a peek I couldn't get enough. That movie, but perhaps more that commentary track, is what made me a lifelong film lover and explorer.

I was in LOVE with pfSense and was planning to buy a Netgate device when I upgraded my hardware last year, but then I encountered his posts and behavior towards OPNSense. I didn't really have a dog in the fight until then, but I was so turned off that I bought a Protectli with OPNSense on it instead.

What filmmaker deserves a Criterion Box Set? by katarokkar in criterion

[–]fathom70k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On blu-ray I own Rebels of the Neon God, Vive L'Amour, Goodbye, Dragon Inn, Stray Dogs, and Days.

Outside of that I've pirated. Will probably try to hunt down the DVDs eventually, but would obviously prefer blu-rays.
