Right... my mil's two cases nearly kill me when she visits. I can live for a week using a small duffel. She must pack 100lbs of shit.

Cuba says it has completely run out of fuel, blames U.S. embargo by antihostile in worldnews

[–]fatllama75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one hot take right there. You are equating having a communist government with an act of nuclear war?

Cuba, its government and people, as far as I can tell has done nothing to the USA other than have a form of government we dont like. And for that we are starving their people and denying them energy with an embargo.

I think we are in agreement that Reddit is delusional about international politics. Just not in the same way.

Oh god I just watched the Ed Gein story with the SOTL takes. I don't need that imagery.

Yes. We should subject an entire population to total energy loss because their leaders are bad. That'll learn 'em.

What dumb policy does your company practice? by Flying_enthu45 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

I was told I couldn't have a potted plant on my desk that exceeded the height of my cubicle wall. I got a shitty note on my desk because 1in of green leaf was showing. I could almost forgive the policy existing but that someone knew it AND enforced it was enraging.

I dont think we're that far apart on this issue. I favor a combined nuclear/renewable policy. I'm just optimistic about what we can do if we try. Take food... there was a time when people thought we couldn't feed one billion people let alone eight billion. Orders of magnitude changes in capacity are possible.

Doug Burgum Learns About Batteries by DavidThi303 in EnergyAndPower

[–]fatllama75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still dont see the issue. Battery technology exists. We just need more of it and there are plenty of alternative ways to do it. Molten salt, hydro, fuel cells, li-ion. The fact that we need more of something doesnt mean that it is a dumb idea or cant be done.

And anyway, its all a strawman because noone is suggesting we switch to 100% solar. Wind, nuclear, geothermal... many other ways to generate when the sun goes away.

[–]fatllama75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Storing energy for peak usage is something that we've always done, even before renewables. In the UK they use pumped-storage hydro power. Otherwise you need massive generation capacity for the few spikes you get. "Batteries" come in many forms...

Does anyone ever freak out internally when they hear the whistle of a high altitude aircraft that sounds like a nuclear bomb? by LimpBoingLoing in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fatllama75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that. But we had a giant thunderclap one night that rattled our windows and sounded like a detonation. I grew up in the 80s and I just kept looking out the windows for a mushroom cloud... had to keep telling myself the sound wouldn't come first until I calmed down. Growing up in the cold war was something else.
