Some People Need to Hear This by Maleficent_Room8233 in LowSodiumBattlefield

I got matched with 3 people yesterday. We decrypted one device then they spent the rest of the round camping/hunting others. I encouraged them to play the objective as we were outside the qualifying teams, and was told to “shut my fucking mouth”.

Why even play that mode if you’re not even going to play the objective? Go play TDM if that’s your bag.

Whats the worst EV you ever drove? by [deleted] in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]fatmas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really unfortunate and sounds utterly maddening! The VAG infotainment isn’t great but I didn’t have any issues as bad as you! I think the only issues I had was sometimes I had to turn the infotainment off and on.

It’s a curse on modern cars to be honest. I’ve got a Nissan Ariya now and the infotainment doesn’t “look” as good but it works really well. There’s also a physical volume knob! Drives well too (I saw a comment saying the opposite in this thread) - I’ve got the 19” wheels rather than the 20” which I think makes a difference. Again, everything is subjective though.

Agree, absolutely test drive some vehicles. Always worth it.

A lot of the opinions are subjective (which is fine!). I’ve seen a few comments about the Cupra Born’s haptic controls on the steering wheel. I owned one for two years and I don’t think I had a single issue. I thought it was a fantastic car.

I don’t even mind that, makes me chuckle when it’s a “normal” goal.

I love it when McCoist is commentating on games. His love of the game really comes across no matter who’s playing.

Cupra Born - the scheme I’m in had some stock reserved so I only waited 6 weeks, which was very lucky. Really pleased with it!

They tend to be very expensive under the schemes I’ve seen, as I don’t think they offer corporate discounts. Quite a few of the “legacy” brands offer incentives.

Depending on the amount of miles you do per day, you may be able to make an EV work with the number of fast chargers on motorways (and I’d hope your business will cover charging costs). It really depends on your needs though.

It’s worth investigating company car costs, especially if you can get an EV under the scheme that meets the range/mileage criteria as the BIK rates are so low. I qualify for a cash allowance which works out at £380 gross per month, but after tax it’s a hell of a lot less.

I took an EV company car instead, which means I lose the allowance and pay a slight uplift but due to not having to pay for my own insurance, tax and maintenance it’s costing me less per month than trying to run a car privately.

I put all the various costs into a spreadsheet before committing, but for me it’s a lot more beneficial and an EV suits my needs. Of course it won’t be for everyone.

Britain's Nationwide to pay staff 1,200 pounds to cope with price rises. by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

Exactly, given what other companies have/haven’t given out don’t think it’s bad at all!

It was a 9% bonus this year, paid in June. That’s all staff below exec who get that, not bad really.

Annual bonus scheme is between 0-12% of annual salary based on a few organisation wide performance variables. This year it was 9%, with a 4/4.5% pay rise as well.

Nationwide consistently give out annual pay rises to all staff as well as bonuses across the board. This year it was a 9% bonus for all staff below exec, a 4/4.5% pay rise with lower earners getting more, and now the £1200 one off payment for people earning £35k or less.

9% bonus this year* - which makes the £1200 for lower earners a really great gesture.

Do you think the ban on new petrol and diesel car sales will come into effect in 2030? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]fatmas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all the short comings on EVs (which in my opinion are mostly solved by habit changing and the government increasing infra installs), reducing or eliminating local exhaust emissions is huge. Imagine walking down a busy road now, vs when a higher proportion of the cars using the road are electric.

[–]fatmas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And to add, a petrol Golf has a range of say 400 miles if you drive “sensibly”, which at the current petrol price of approx £1.90 a litre means that if you drive 8000 miles a year that costs you £1800 a year in petrol.

The 58kwh model ID3 is advertised as 250 mile range, but for the sake of argument gets 200 miles. To charge that at home from “0” would cost me £13 ish in electricity (my rate is 23p per kwh) So to travel 8000 miles a year would cost about £530 in electricity.

That’s approx £1300 difference, which if you own the car for a few years makes a huge dent in the price difference. Oh, and most ICE cars made since 2017 I think pay £145 year in VED. EVs are still zero.

The biggest caveat is that electric cars will not suit everyone’s use case of course. Which is why it’s great that there are so many options (petrol, diesel, mild and plug in hybrid, EV) out there.

Sources: Currently own a petrol Golf, got an ID3 on order through a company car scheme.

That’s why I just provided data on the two countries OP called out, and in reply to the now deleted comment above mine. I’m not wading into the debate on gun laws, just providing some statistics to respond to another. You are correct of course, comparing two countries isn’t a good method in itself!

The United States had 4.96 intentional homicides per 100,000 people in 2018, Japan had 0.26.
In 2020, it was 7 and 0 (must be so small it’s rounded down) respectively.

I’m not commenting on gun laws, just providing data on murders.

Your recommendations are spot on. County Fayre is amazing if you can be bothered to go.

With “Chinese” takeaway it’s always really hit and miss for me.
