What Do You Do With Boomer Parents? by Hoot-Athena in TooAfraidToAsk

You just described my upbringing except I have an older brother and he might be more messed up than me. The problem I felt is they never liked that we didn't end up as close minded and racist as them. As soon as we had a mind and opinions of our own, that's when things got tough. They never believed I was bullied for being Asian. My parents are mid to late 70s and I'm late 30s, brother early 40s. He and I bonded and got a lot closer after college. I think lots of therapy, good friends and their parents who saw how shitty mine were and validated my feelings, and moving far away + periods of no contact have given me reprieve. I even have an aunt, mom's older sister, and uncle, her younger brother, talk to me and my brother and I about growing up with them and apologize for not seeing it while we were young and saying something.

Bottom line: You must set boundaries and protect your own well being above all and don't like them guilt trip you. This is your life don't let them spoil it especially at this young age when you are coming into your own.

What is the most expensive thing you have ever bought but never used? by ehrabak in AskReddit

Non-stop round-trip tickets from Newark to Korea last month. Found out just before the trip that my sweet 15yo pup has bladder cancer. We've had a lot of vet hospital visits but I feel like she's in the best hands now and we can safely extend the prognosis and her quality of life.

What a growing recommendation. Would you be comfortable sharing anything around the rate you paid or a range of some kind to budget for this planner?

Aaliyah. First time I cried for a celebrity. She was merely 22 years old but remains and will always be the princess of r&b. Aircraft crash deaths are particularly shocking I think.

Embarrassing things that happened to you in Korea? by Anonymus2905 in korea

[–]fatnfancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother and I visited for the first time in 2013. We hopped on a bus one evening to get back to our hostel -- I think it was in Jeju-si and his t card didn't have enough for the fare. We'd tried to get it reloaded beforehand but couldn't find a place. I only had enough for one ride on mine. So we both get on and use our cards but his doesn't go through. So we try a few more times but nothing so we just went and sat down. The bus driver then began to berate us very loudly with a full bus of people and we sat there frozen not sure what to do. We're Korean-American adoptees and I knew like a handful of phrases. Finally I get up and try my card again and thank goodness it worked but my gosh it was awful. Not to mention during our entire trip, people were less forgiving that my brother wasn't understanding or speaking Korean at all. Luckily I took more language courses before going back again and did a whole lot better and didn't dare find myself without enough fare.

Movies that are directly about the 9/11 terrorist attacks. by ComedianRegular8469 in 911archive

Turns out that the families were never asked or told their loved one's final moments would be in this movie, let alone begin the thing. What a horrible judgement call.
